  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – adopting doesn’t make you a better person

    FBM Adopting a dog 400 2 2023
    From Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert

Adopting doesn’t make you a better person.

This is one of those posts that is likely to create controversy. And they may rain criticism on us, we know it. But it is absolutely necessary.

The last few weeks have been especially difficult. In addition to ending the hunting season and receiving dogs and more dogs daily, the situation is complicating for a reason that creates sadness, and anger at the same time: the abandonment of dogs that had already been previously adopted.

You can’t imagine the number of calls, emails, comments and messages on networks that often come to us like this “My personal situation has changed, and I can no longer have dogs… He has an illness and we can’t assume the costs… “We moved and our landlord, doesn’t accept pets.. “We’ve had a kid and the dogs all of a sudden are behaving strangely… Can you please take care of the dogs? “

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – starved and injured – more arrivals at the shelter

From Sandy Galgoslover at Galgos Rescue Almeria.

Last week was very emotional for us, you can never forget these images.

We welcomed 8 new faces, not happy faces…

Not only Rocio & Moro arrived in a terrible condition, also these 3 girls Pequeña (1,5 years old), Mora (1,5 years old) & Bandera (4 years old) are in very poorly condition. Malnourished, skin & bones and their emaciated bodies show numerous wounds.

You don’t believe human beings are capable of such a thing. They must have been through hell, the time to heal, both mentally and physically, can start now. It will take a while before also these 3 can leave their traumas behind them.

You can support our dogs for 1€ a month by joining our teaming group.

This is one of them, Moro.

His body shows how this treasure has suffered, endured pain, was left to its own devices,….. there are no words for this. Moro is safe now, the healing process can begin.

  • The terror of a galga – and their suffering continues – no protection for them

    From Animal Rescue Spain.

‘Aitana has just arrived and is trembling with terror. She is a galgo like so many others, a waste of the hunt. How to explain to her that our Spanish politicians have ignored this suffering? That, as she is a hunting greyhound, she will not have rights like the rest of the dogs in the new Spanish Animal Protection Law, that dogs like her can continue to be mistreated with total impunity… Help us to continue fighting for them with a donation.

It all comes down to money – billions of Euros in the Spanish government pocket from hunting!

  • Amores Peludos in Madrid Province – after hunting the galgos keep coming

    Amores Peludos logo 400
Amores Peludos is a protectora in Madrid province, yet another group of amazing Spanish volunteers rescuing and rehoming abandoned galgos mostly.

‘We encourage you all again to join our teaming, we have risen to 662, we would love to reach 1000 teamers, that would give us a lot of air in the situation we are currently living and we wanted to encourage you with this video presentation of the last dogs that we have not yet we had introduced to you, who have joined the Amores Peludos family in the last two weeks of which 11 arrived last Saturday in one day, including one poor old Grandpa just skin and bones?

You have no idea how important your financial contribution is no matter how small, it helps us to be able to do the veterinary protocol for everyone, it helps us be able to continue saving lives like those of these 16 dogs who did not choose to be born into the wrong hands. They have already known the worst side of humans, now our mission is to show them that after the abandoned there is life and with your help we can make it possible.

  • Amores Peludos – another association saving Spanish hunting hounds

Yet another sad victim of the bloody galgueros, now safe with association Amores Peludos.

‘This is how we rescued beautiful Zabell early one Friday morning at the end of hunting in -2 degrees. They clearly saw as a car hit her twice in the middle of the road, there were suspicions that she could be pregnant and it was a rescue of utmost urgency.

Now we have put a final pin to her terrible and sad past, after she was left in that hard field that had become her
home. We begin to write a new chapter in the book of her life. Now she has stopped being something to be someone, now she has identity and dignity and we will take care of making her as happy as she deserves.

Thank you Olga for the routine so well done as always.

  • A Black Day for Spanish Animals – 9th February 2023

Black Day for Spanish Animals 400 2 2023
From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends

‘9th February 2023 was a black day for animal welfare in Spain, the Government signed an agreement where both parties promised dignity for all animals. In what will be the ” National Animal Protection Act” the animal welfare law was passed but have excluded the bulls tortured at bull festivities, the millions of animals riddled by hunters, the ones used for animal testing, the ones considered production, such as executed in slaughterhouses, some horses, those used in pilgrimages, dolphins and hunting dogs. What this means Podencos and Galgos plus many other animals in Spain, are not protected they are in a worse position than before.

  • Refugio Kimba – a year saving Spanish hunting dogs

    Refugio Kimba logo 300
    FEBRUARY 1 WORLD GALGO DAY

They say out there, that greyhounds dream their whole life with a life to come, they dream their home, their family, every place, and that dream helps them to be able to get through their reality of abuse and torture. Many make it and others get left in the way.. So when a greyhound comes to your life is not that you have chosen but he dreams.

The end of the hunt comes and with it the end of their lives or the release of others.

Over a year we collect many dogs, but the vast majority are hunting dogs, especially greyhounds and podencos. It is very painful to see how they arrive with their souls totally shattered, atrocious fear and utter distrust for human, not to mention the physical wounds. Dogs that pee and defecate on you when you look into their eyes… We can’t imagine what they’ve had to go through.
