  • Podenco Friends and 5 rescued galgos

    Bev farmer is known for her tireless work with rescued podencos. But occasionally a galgo crosses her path. Here’s her story of 5.

    ‘On 9th January we took in 5 male galgos. They are a voluntary hand over from their Galguero, not living in the best of conditions but in fairness all 5 dogs are in a reasonable state. A lot of superficial cuts and bite marks, just one that had a serious laceration that needed attention. Thanks to Friends of Mazarron Animals who are working with local Galgueros.

    Due to an outbreak of myxomatosis in hares in a number of regions in Spain, hunting has been suspended in some areas, the galgueros no longer want the dogs and are agreeing to hand them over to rescues.

    Many thanks to Dee N, Ste Hargreaves, Steve.. Dee..Val..Falk..Jane..Keith who transported them up yesterday to our vets and stayed with us whilst all the dogs were blood tested and vaccinated. Then helped to take them to Finca la Castellana were they are in residence until we have space to bring them to us

    Galgo rescued with a broken leg. As you can see, the beginning of the year is not good and in just 10 days we have already picked up two dogs that need surgery.

  • Protectora Scooby Palencia

    ‘We saw her several times a day, running along the road, crossing field through…until we discovered where she slept and finally, when the night fell, we were able to rescue her.

    Another galguito more safe, another wonderful being that will have the opportunity to have a home and a real family.

  • Escaping hell – 16 galgos from Rota, Cadiz to Murcia

    A situation has arisen where a Galguero is getting rid of his Galgos. Bev Grubba has arranged that 16 of them are going to Galgos del Sol in Murcia. It’s a 6 hour drive so 16 of them will be safe…not turned out on the street as the Galguero threatened!! That’s 16 arriving that need to be blood tested, vaccinated, sterilised etc and reports of some with broken legs. Galgos del Sol have no news on their health but just to prepare the basics will run into thousands. Can you make a paypal donation to finish off the year and help us?

  • Scooby to the rescue again – galga on the run for a year

    Success! Finally it has been possible to capture this mommy galguita who has been wandering around Medina about a year with her daughter (the most white) she has raised on the street…Mommy is scared but not so much, she has realized fast that in Scooby all the people she finds treat her well, the little one is more fearful, probably has not had direct contact with humans so she will need more patience,
    They are in adoption both and deserve a great family that wants them, will it be yours?

    HOW I MET LUKA AND HOW HE CHANGED MY LIFE

    I had been interested, OK, obsessed with retired racing greyhounds for over 20 years but the time was never right to bring one into my life. About 11 years ago I noticed that the greyhounds were going to be at a local Petco store doing meet and greets from Thanksgiving to Christmas. It was right across from my Mom’s favorite restaurant.

    After lunch we went over to the store to see the hounds. When I told the meet and greet rep that I had always wanted a greyhound she asked why haven’t I sent in my adoption application. My Mom was the sticking point. I had a very lively wired haired fox terrier at home along with two parrots. Everyone had to get along. I had never had two dogs at the same time before. The rep suggested I bring my fox terrier Scout in to see how he got along with the hounds. A week later I did just that and found that Scout was not afraid of them or overly interested in them. This could work.

    ‘We have just welcomed Pipi, this beautiful little dog with sweet big eyes that tell us a sad story for now, we hope they will soon be able to tell us a very different story. Pipi arrived with a cut in her neck, which seems to indicate that she has been tied for a long time. We are going to heal the wound but we hope to heal another deeper wound, being a battered dog. We would like you to find a home soon. Would you give her that opportunity? Thank you’

  • Can you help Galgo Ghuy with his dietry control?

    Ghuy returns to Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert shelter after 2 years sharing home life with his family. Due to the incompatibility of schedules and the pancreatic insufficiency that Ghuy suffers, his family could not attend Ghuy’s care. We are sorry that this boy has to be with us after living with a family, the change could be very hard for him.

    Ghuy needs a treatment to be able to absorb the nutrients of the food and diet control, nothing out of the ordinary. Would you give Ghuy a home? We hope someone could! Thank you all.
