Why adopt a galgo
Poem by Ann Marie Payne of SOS Animals
You’re thinking of adopting a dog?
Maybe I can help you decide on the breed
You want a dog that’s easy to look after. What about a Galgo?
You want a dog that’s easy to groom. what about a galgo?
You want a dog that’s easy on the lead. What about a Galgo?
You want a dog that will show you so much love.
What about a Galgo?
You want a dog that loves to laze about most of the day
What about a Galgo?
You want a dog that’s good with other dogs?
What about a Galgo?
You want a dog that’s waiting in the pound for you to save it?
What about a Galgo?
Galgos make wonderful pets.
I know, I’ve got 4
How about making just one Galgos life better with you
Please think about it(NB Photo is of my 3 adopted galgos and 1 podenco – Beryl)

Galgo Espanol Espana – galgos needing help with kennel fees
Galgos with Galgo Espanol Espana waiting for forever homes.
Mayday! We’re looking for foster and adoption parents for some of our galgos!
There are currently several of our galgos who do not have the cost of kennels covered. Amore, Candela, Helen and Margarita! For Dante we received 30 euros and for Greta 40 euros. The kennels of Amore and Dante are somewhat more expensive combined with Dante’s monthly treatment.
Although our Swiss partners do everything they can to find solutions, they don’t always arrive…
Right now the hunting season starts and we’ll start receiving appeals for galgos who which need our help and if we can’t cover the needs of what we have, we won’t be able to help others.

Galgo Zeus in Portugal, waiting for a forever home.
Name: Zeus, Gender: M Breed: galgo Age: d-o-b: October 2015 Size: big (25kg, 70cm)
Others: dewormed, vaccinated
Story:
Zeus was found on the street. Not uncommon to find abandoned galgos after the hunting season. Probably those that did not perform well…. For some people the dogs are just instruments.
Zeus is calm, balanced, lovely and gentle. He is social with other dogs and friendly with people – he wags his tail a lot. He is good on the leash. Galgos make lovely family dogs.Video and pix on this link. Contact Dogs of Portugal direct about him.

A Galgo’s story
Video about galgos, both their abuse and their rehoming. Several of the abuse photos are old ones from stories featured on Galgo News and in my book ‘From Heaven to Hell’.

Update on Bruno, old, abandoned and dying on the street.
Do you remember the story of Bruno at the end of August. Well, there’s good news. Here’s an update on his progress from Galgos112.
Thank you helping Bruno. He is doing better but still has a long way to go. He is a strong and brave dog and we are sure he will recover.
We really apreciatte your desire of helping with his veterinary expenses. He is now under veterinary care for leishmania, he needs K vitamin to stop him from bleeding, also he needs special diet and he he will be able to visit the oftalmologist soon. We have many bills to pay so even a small help will be welcome. http://www.galgos112.es/donativos/
Bruno is a good dog, he has no problema getting on with cats and other dogs. He is able to move only very slowly and for short walks. We bring him from his bed to the arm chair, and he likes to lie in the sun. We’re spoiling him and sometimes he’s a bit grumpy but we don’t mind!

Update – Old, black and male – galgo Negro
Update on Negro – a possible adopting home in Holland is being assessed. If this is not successful, then there is an enquiry from Germany. So it looks very hopeful for Negro to find a forever sofa.

European Greyhound Network
Here is a weblink to the European Greyhound Network. It is based in Italy, although some of the dogs are in Germany. If you are thinking of adopting a galgo or podenco, please think carefully and talk to other adoptants about the process. Be sure the dogs are Pet Passported and proper homechecks are carried out. Also that there is good backup support should there be problems. Many galgos especially have been kept in horrendous conditions and can take many months to adjust to life in a home. My own Carmela came with serious mental problems and it took me over 2 years before she fully gained our trust in every aspect of her life with us. However, it was worth it as she has developed into the most delightful affectionate playful character.
