  • Please stop and look inside my cage – a canine plea

Dog in cage 250A moving piece of prose, so true.

I’m weary and I am lonely and,I am so afraid.
Please don’t pass me by, will you come to my aid?
It’s hard to understand why I was thrown on to the street
Left alone in the middle of nowhere with nothing around to eat.
I wasn’t given a reason for being wanted no more
I was left alone and abandoned. Now what was all that for?
I never did any naughty things, of that I am so sure.
I never barked or ruined things. I even gave my paw.
So why do human’s feelings change? I’m trying to see why
They would throw a good dog out like me, Oh my. Oh my. Oh my.

  • Galgos del Sol – video of life in Spain for the hunting dogs

An excellent video showing the truth about living in Spain with the daily problem of abandoned galgos and podencos.  Galgo News was contacted by Tina when she worked as a volunteer at Los Infiernos refuge where there were galgos needing help…which I publicised for her, and donated to the cost of the kennels at Gaynor’s. We also fostered a couple of her rescued galgos, including Bracken.  He was adopted in the UK but sadly circumstances changed drastically (outside the control of his adoptant family) and David drove back and brought him back to France where he is still with us today.  He is a great character, the Spanish vet did a wonderful job putting his damaged leg back together and it always comes up for attention ‘poor me’!

  • Scooby rescues 50 more hunting dogs in Castilla-la Mancha, Spain

50 Greyhounds and hounds from Castilla La Mancha…

In a few weeks the hunting season with galgos will come to an end and that means that now already shelters and perreras are completely full with galgos, discarded by their owner who just considers them a bad working tool and nothing more…
Scooby will take the next couple weeks hundreds of galgos and podencos in to save them from being killed in a perrera or waiting for years and years in shelters because nobody adopts them.

Sunday the 10th. of January we had to go to pick up some 50 galgos and podencos in a shelter in Tomelloso were every day a few galgos are brought in by their loving owners or mostly, are just thrown over the fence.

  • 35 More galgos rescued from Jerez (Cadiz) perrera by Scooby

Fermin Perez Martin, president of Scooby, tells the story.

‘On Monday 18/1/2016 we went to Jerez to pick up 35 more galgos, who now are sitting comfortably in our shelter.

We should have taken 36 galgos, but during the release of 5 galgos from the back of a trailor carried by their galguerro, one of the galgos was so terrified, he broke free from his leash, gave many bite wounds to his former ‘master’, and he fled for his life. This is sad, very sad that a galgo who was so close to the chance at a better life with us, took his chance of freedom to escape the life he knew, to be used only as a tool.
We hope that the volunteers in Jerez will find him and eventually he will get the life he deserves, and this highlights the huge importance of our work, travelling great distances to save as many of these mistreated souls that we possibly can.
Please support us in our even increasing work, you will be seeing the many new faces of our wonderful galgos appearing soon and ready for adoption.’
