A story about a mama galga and her babies (born February 2013) who were in a perrera in Malaga province, rescued by the association and in foster nearby until the pups could be vaccinated and travel to France. They will all arrive on the rescue on 24th May.
Meet my canine gang, 4 rescued from Spain, one from France.
Tribute to Zoe – by Charlotte del Rio
Dear Sr.Galguero
I was sitting here with my thoughts, looking back over time.
Just a mere girl I was at your feet, the foot that booted me regularly. I wondered when the day would be, when I’d be free from the shame I felt.
I wandered by your side Sr.Galguero as a good galga should and on many occasion I know you thought you broke me. You almost did!
At just a year old I’d been born into hell, I knew nothing more than the life I led. Shamed, doomed, and hollow. Fear striking me at every move. How I lived on my nerves .. Oh how I did.
Galgo mum and pups saved from being killed in Jerez perrera. Scooby to the rescue again.
Don Quixote – rescued, rehabilitated and now looking for his forever home. Irene Allan writes.
‘We took in a galgo in January 2014 which was on the street and he was in a very bad condition with Leishmanaiosis and a couple of large bullet wounds also. He has been in foster since then and has had all his treatment and the best of food and care.He has turned the corner and not the terrified boy when we got him.His last leish blood tests were last week (end March 2014) and were good. He is negative for ehrichlea and heartworm These are some before and one after Don Quixote, about 4 years old.
Hell on earth for galgos. This story is from Jane Brian of Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville. It happened on 21st March 2014 – the first day of Spring!
‘Today is a day I will never forget. It reminded me of the reason why we started the refuge, after finding a dog hanging from a tree in 2005.
Apologies for the lack of news recently. It’s not because there isn’t any news – galgos are still being abandoned and dumped in the perreras in their hundreds – Scooby and Baasgalgo have taken dozens and Pepis Refuge have had more dumped at their gates. I’m nearing completion of my next book, and that’s what has taken me away from the updates. Herewith an appeal from Jacky Cotton for help for a beautiful small galga. Jacky tells Una’s story.
‘HELP WANTED
This is Una, a 4-year-old small galgo. Although outside our normal remit – our specialisation is puppies – we could not leave her lying injured and unable to move at the side of the road, having been dragged behind a moving scooter. She was in great pain.

Just wanted to let you all know that I was having a little chat with Ines last night and when enquiring about our lovely Forgeuete and Esperanca the word Ines used was ‘thriving’. 😀 They are both putting on more weight and are becoming more relaxed. 😀
Obviously with everything going on, neither Ines or Teresa have had time to update us all, so I hope you will be happy with my little update. I am very happy with this news
