On 19th June at 12:30, the European Parliament adopted its position on the proposal on cats and dogs with 457 votes in favor, 17 against and 86 abstentions.
Hounds aren’t excluded.
The outcome is generally excellent for our pets.
Despite months of ups and downs and an endless list of exemptions, a sufficient majority of European Parliament MPs fulfilled their promises and ambitions, and continues the fight against the illegal trade of animals for their protection.

We have recently lost our blind podenco Bocelli to inoperable stomach tumour. A couple of years ago he had a small lump removed from his chest and the vet said the problem could reoccur, which it did.

My galgo Polar had adamagedhine knee, an accident when he was 2 months old. Not recommended for an operation by 4 vets but I did find a young woman qualified to do laser treatment on animals, especially dogs. Polar had a few treatments and walked much easier after each one, but it was not something I could afford forever.

We are lucky in that we have never owned an aggressive dog. However, we have owned three who have been the victims of dog attacks. 2 of my galgos, Carmela and Bracken were both victims of the same dog – but at different times – when we lived in France. Luckily neither of them were seriously injured but it certainly scared the life out of us! Our blind podenco Bo bears the scars and marks from being attacked, over his face and pieces missing from his ears. As he spent his first years on the end of a chain it’s not hard to guess when the attack(s) happened.
