  • The work of Galgos del Sol in Murcia

One of the very first stories I ran when I started Galgo News back in 2008 was about Ruso, a galgo left in a Spanish shelter where a English volunteer, Tina Solera, helped out. She contacted me and together we started on a journey which culminated in her opening her first shelter and the formation of Galgos del Sol. She is now one of the most widely known workers in galgo rescue in Murcia.

Tina says, ‘here is a video celebrating how far we’ve come since Galgos Del Sol was founded back in 2011. We continue to build the dream with you by our side and we can never thank you enough. It’s because of you we acknowledge where we are today with this special presentation.

Please watch this wonderful film made by the talented filmmaker Alex C Rivera. Would you consider joining us on our journey by making a donation? We need your support to continue our much needed work of ending the plight of the galgos and podencos in Spain. Thank you.

  • Yo Galgo – watch for free – finishes today.

33,470 watched Yo Galgo for free yesterday in 51 countries. I am amazed and blown away by the kind response of so many people, thank you. Today you still have the change to watch our film for free (link https://skinnydogfilms.com/yo-galgo-documentary) and learn more about what is going on in Spain with the hunting dogs called galgos. We got so many incredible stories yesterday, from people adopting dogs thanks to our project, to contacts to bring the story to TVs, and even someone who recognized their adopted galgo from the movie. Thanks for all your love, your comments, your donations, and for sharing our film. We’re grateful for your support – please keep watching and sharing today. Let’s extend the kindness towards all animals and keep producing stories that matter for nature.

  • Galga Careta with Galgos Rescue Almeria – making slow progress

    Galgo Rescue Almeria Carela 400 4 2020
It is hard for us to imagine what treatment is meted out to their galgos by the galgueros to make the hounds so terrified of life. This poor galga suffered – until she was rescued. After time and much patience, she is learning to trust humans.

‘Do you remember Careta? She came to GRA 31 March 2019 severely traumatized, we will never know what exactly happened to her.
All we know is that she is originally from a hunter in Cáceres and she was taken to a kennel in Dos Hermanas where she would be euthanized ….
Now more than a year later she has changed a lot, with a lot of patience and love she is no longer terrified.
Careta is a gorgeous girl with a backpack of bad experiences. She is drawn for life but after a year she has already made great progress and once she is with her family she will be able to leave her past behind. Galgo Rescue Almeria’

  • Ban hare coursing – join in the campaign

    Ban hare coursing 400 4 2020
Where I used to live in Suffolk, England, we had cars arrive at a field in September after the crops had been harvested. The men had greyhounds with them, plus cages with trapped hares. We used to call the police but by the time they arrived, the men and dogs had scarpered. My first greyhound turned up at our home as a stray and from her condition I reckon she was one that got left behind because she was not fast enough. She lived happily with my other dogs and cats too. So although this campaign isn’t about galgos, hare coursing does happen in Spain just the same, it’s what the galgueros do. Please write and join the campaign.

New Bill to ban Live hare coursing…

Let’s ask politicians to back protection of Ireland’s persecuted hares!
