  • Galgos in Training – Seville olive groves

This video was taken by Luca, president of Anpana, the Italian galgo rescue association currently visiting Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera. He took this film on the drive down from the village to the refuge. The second half of the video is taken from Pepis. Check out the speed of the vehicle.

I witnessed similar ‘training’ when I was there, man on quad bike with 4 galgos. This was made illegal in Andalucia but a couple of years back the Junta rescinded the law.

  • Germanwings plan crash

I have removed the post as there are now so many conflicting stories, it is difficult to ascertain the facts. Thank you everyone who commented.

  • Galgos in Spain – Seville and Salamanca – damn the galgueros!

Two videos to watch. The first one is of the galgos belonging to a galguero in Pedrera, Seville, which Anpana are visiting with an Italian TV Crew. On facebook but you should be able to watch it.

    Video Anpana

The second one is a story from Scooby about a galga rescued in Salamanca; unfortunately they were unable to save her life. They are appealing for anyone who knows who the owner is. You can see the dog if you click on the link at the end of the report on the Scooby blog.

  • Toledo – galgo victim of a hit and run – video at the vets

  • Important Warning about Cani Leish

Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends is passing on this important information about Cani Leish. Cani leish was launched in 2012 a vaccine developed that was supposed to prevent dogs contracting leishmania. She never bought into it and never had any of her dogs vaccinated with it. Read this and it will explain why there is a petition to have the vaccine withdrawn here in Spain.

‘We are proprietors of affected dogs or dead after administration of CaniLeish and people concerned about the health and welfare of dogs. We want this drug gets withdrawn by its apparent high level of toxicity, and so they stop hurting dogs.

  • Italian TV crew visit Pepis Dog Refuge, Seville – and also a galguero

Anpana is the Italian association which supports the galgos at Pepis Dog Refuge and rehomes them. An Italian tv crew also came to visit them, to film the dogs and also to visit a galguero to see how he keeps his dogs…you would be shocked that he should be proud to have people see it! They live chained to the wall in stone animal feed troughs in what is not quite a bunker! The videos of the visit are on facebook. If you are able to visit Pepis Refuge facebook page, you may be able to see the videos. Here is a weblink if you wish to try.

There are 26 galgos currently at Pepis and 18 puppies from the two galga bitches which arrived heavily pregnant. They all need feeding, along with the 50+ other dogs. Please help feed them, and home them. And you will be made very welcome if you want to go and spend a week’s holiday volunteering at the refuge. There is a very comfy caravan ready and waiting!

  • Charity funding and donating – ACTIN suggests

I wish some person in the public domain would create an Animal Aid event. We have Children in Need, Comic Relief (£41 million raised last week and for me there was too much promotion funding projects in Africa (with their corrupt regimes) and not enough on entertainment for the people being asked to donate) and Sports Relief – all in the UK.

In a previous life I worked for the BBC including Children in Need in our area and the interest generated on the money they raised was also phenominal.

Viv Wharton of ACTIN says – What we could do if people changed their attitudes towards charity funding? This video is really good and especially interesting if you have come across people being negative towards fund giving, or discrimination against charities….
