Update on Galga Alma with Galgos Rescue Almeria
From Sandy Galgoslover in AlmeriaWe got back from the traumatologist with great news. The surgery was successful and the wound is healing well. Within 2 weeks the stitches can be removed.
A new appointment has been made in mid-December for a final check, if everything goes well, the screws will be removed from the titanium plate.
We would like to thanks Un Levriero per la Vita for taking care of the costs of the surgery.

Cruelty of the Spanish hunters knows no bounds – souless murderers!
From Protectora La Bienvenida Cuidad Real
Cuidad Real is 200 km south of Madrid. This story is 11 2022 – the hunters deny they are cruel to their dogs!
‘POZUELO OF CVA (CUIDAD REAL)
Sensitive photo – may upset
One of our collaborators met yesterday with this Dantesque view…
And it’s not the first time that this happens in this town and unfortunately, it won’t be the last.
Two young galgos, two victims whose lives have been taken and of course without identification of the cowardly and poorly-born they had as their executioner.
It’s already in the hands of the Guardia Civil and whoever has any leads or information about the cause, can write to us.

Galgos Rescue Almeria – galga with a broken leg
From Sandy Galgoslover at Galgos Rescue Almeria.A couple of days ago this young galga was picked up in Baza with a broken leg and we were asked if we could take her. She was taken to the vet to make X-rays of her paw. She spent the night at the vets and then was brought to us.
She has been for a check-up with our vet, microchipped, has a European passport and a blood sample was taken. The results were negative for all Mediterranean diseases except Anaplasma. Alma will receive treatment with Doxiciclina for 28 days and an appointment has been made with the traumatologist.
We would like to thank Eli for contacting us and Raymond Faber for picking her up in Baza.
All help and support is welcome as her operations and medication is going to be expensive.

Protectora La Bienvenida Cuidad Real – another galga safe from the hunters
From Protectora La Bienvenida Ciudad RealWeeks ago we introduced Bubble, another victim of the damn hunt and the vile hunters. The galguita that her dear owner left her ill, without food or water, to see if she died alone…
But there we came in and freed her from that hell and now she sleeps happily in a foster home, recovering and putting her heart together, waiting for her forever family.
As you can see, she’s a typical galga because when they find a bed or sofa, nothing will lift them from there!
She’s doing super well at home and losing her fears.
La Bienvenida was the first Protectora I visited in 2007 from where I adopted my first galga Karmel.

Whole Dog Journal – teaching your dog recall
Imagine Every Dog Owner’s Worst Nightmare Happening to You…
Your dog is running straight towards the street. You’re calling his name, yelling “Come!”
What does he do?
We know you’re careful with your dog. He’s always leashed. He never bolts out of the door. He doesn’t like to chase squirrels. Until the moment he’s unsecured and he takes off.
Is your dog trained to reliably come when called? Most of us are working on a reliable “recall,” but our pooches haven’t entirely gotten the hang of it…yet. Well, he better…

Galga Neu with Puntanimals in Umbria, Spain – hoping for a forever home.
From Puntanimals in Spain.
‘This little one is also a victim of hunting and abandonment, luckily her path crossed with that of our friend Belén who is the foster home of many of our rescues, infinite thanks for everything you do for them. You are safe now NEU, your life has changed already.
We leave you Belen’s words about the history and character of NEU.
“I’m headed out to walk my troop like just another day.” That day I decided to take a different route, shorten the road to get to a traffic light earlier. It was an accidental decision that would save a life. When I was walking half a street, a person stopped me and asked me if I wanted to pick up a galgo that was abandoned and in the heat. I told him I would if I was sure that dog didn’t belong to anyone, I didn’t want trouble if it was someone’s. He assured me no, she was abandoned. He brought it to me and delivered it to me.
Unknowingly, that dog had gotten a second chance. She is a low-medium galgo, young approx 1’5 or 2 years old. At first skeptical but soon you win her over and she’s charming. Gets along well with dogs, doesn’t react to small dogs.

Galgos and Podencos hunting in Spain
I’ve just published this article on my other blog Podenco Post. Whilst it is mainly about podencos, you can read much of the information therein also relates to galgos.
