Lovely story with a happy ending in the Daily Mail. Sadly a common story, abandoned galga finds somewhere to have pups.

Life on the frontline of Animal Rescue in Spain
(SWanchez) This is what life is like at Pepis Dog Refuge for Jane and Alan Brian. In 2005 they moved to Spain for a retirement life, instead this is what they cope with 24/7/365. Neither of them are in the best of health, but they carry on caring for the dogs the local Spanish throw out. They survive only on donations. Please join their teaming – just the cost of a cup of coffee a month – or a monthly donation of £5/5 euros. Every little helps.
Jane writes. ‘Being a legal refuge, you are limited to how many dogs you can take, this alone is a problem. WHY, because Seprona the guardia civil can prosecute you for having over your quota, because it is illegal to do that,so we are here and easy targets. BUT it is also illegal to dump dogs, and when they do we have to deal with it/ Do we untie them and let them go to be shot or starve to death. NO we don’t, we deal with it.
BUT who is going to prosecute the people who dump them? NO ONE, because you have to prove they dumped them, no chip no proof. The law is useless.
That being said, the dogs can be removed and destroyed. Welcome to Spain.

2nd PAES Conference – Challenging the Iceberg – 25& 25 February 2017
The task facing Rescue and Animal Welfare Organisations in Spain is huge and relentless.
The constant flow of Animals needing rescue, care and re-homing is similar to seeing the tip of an Iceberg. As with an Iceberg we are seeing the impact of only a small proportion of the problem, the vast majority lies below the surface. The unseen mass, is, among others, a compound failure of a clear understanding of the Law affecting Animal Welfare.
What are the responsibilities and accountabilities of the various agencies ,Municipal, Law Enforcement, Veterinary and Legal in applying and reinforcing the Law?

Sick galgo at the gates of Pepis Dog Refuge –
Another little galgo pup at Pepis Refuge Gates. Jane Brian tells his story.
‘5 Jan 2017. Late last night the dogs in the refuge alerted us to a possible abandonment. We spent an hour searching around with the torch…but could not find anything. This morning when we were cleaning, the dogs started again so watching where they were looking barking we saw this little fella standing looking at us from outside the play area, so he could have been the reason for last night bless him. Unusual for just one so we had another search around but found nothing. He is very skinny and obviously scared. He will be visiting the vets this evening for a medical check-up. His name is Solo.

SOS Rescue – catching abandoned galgos
This is a video of SOS Rescue in Spain, trying to catch abandoned galgos. It is on facebook so I’m not sure if you can view it, I have asked if it can be put on Youtube.
Vincente Cervero Lopez says ‘Currently we have 6 Rescue teams in Castilla La Mancha, Madrid and Murcia. we want to make two rescue teams more, to be able to help more and better. The equipment for each team costs around 600 euros, which includes loops and traps to capture terrified galgos, a microchip reader, networks and kennel’.

Badly injured on a Spanish road – Galgos112 to the rescue
29/12 2016 – This end of the year is being particularly hard. The requests we receive daily for help from our team are enormous. And unfortunately we can’t do it all. We don’t have shelter and we rely exclusively on our foster homes, but if there are no houses free we can’t do much more.
Today’s the day we go back to making a great effort and draw strength from where almost no longer do we have anything left…. but impossible not to help this galga, in Valencia, we picked up this princess in a terrible state.
Open fractures of the two front legs, hip fracture, pneumothorax, a deep cut in the bottom and the entire body, scored and covered with wounds… and in so much pain. This small and sweet galguita is no more than two years old. We have called her Luba. Now we wait for her to regain her strength and stabilize to go into surgery.
