  • Helping your dog with arthritis

Happily most of my dogs – all rescues – have lived a long and healthy life.  A couple of them I lost too young to cancer, but generally they all lived into their teens.  I’ve used 2 natural remedies for helping them along once their joints started to stiffen with arthritis.  One remedy I used with them all was turmeric.  Another was CBD oil – hemp oil.  I used this especially with a younger galgo who had suffered an accident at 2 months old to a rear hind leg and 5 vets all said the same, that if they operated on him there was no guarantee it would improve his joint action.  So he was on CBD oil, although he amazingly had a high pain threshold.  (pic is of my Polar’s damaged left knee joint.)

This weblink is to an interesting article discussing different remedies for dealing with arthritis in your dog.

I, [FULL NAME], holder of ID number [ID/PASSPORT NUMBER], submit this statement regarding the preliminary public consultation on the draft Royal Decree on traditional zoological centres to express my concern about its scope and consequences.
I support the submissions of Fundación AnimaNaturalis Internacional (CIF G67350462) and highlight the following:
    – Definition of “traditional zoological centres”

The current definition, based mainly on exclusions, creates legal uncertainty and allows overly broad interpretations. Clear, positive and restrictive criteria are essential to avoid including animals or establishments that should not fall under livestock health regulations.
    – Exclusion of hunting dogs and other non-productive dogs (more…)

  • Protectora Scooby Medina- the forgotten galgos

Another hunting season is over. Don’t forget them.
Many new galgos are entering the shelters, and in a few days a rescue mission will recover dozens of galgos in southern Spain.
But please remember those who have been waiting for a long time.
These are just some of the forgotten galgos — many of them have made great progress and are ready to go home.

    Kris (2023)

    Tito (2019)
If you can, please give them priority.  They deserve a life beyond the shelter.

  • Dia de Galgo

Pray for the thousands of galgos who will be abandoned now hunting in Spain has finished for this season.  Dumped in perreras, abandoned in the campo, in villages, in towns – starving, sick, injured.  Pray also for the volunteers who work tirelessly to help them.

  • Abandoned and starving – and hunting in Spain hasn’t finished yet

Hunting with dog finished on 31st January but already there are many abandoned galgos being found on the campo.
Help needed for this poor dog.  Showed up in a Carmona field.. Seville,.  Look how she is.  She’s managed to survive and  we haven’t been able to look away.  We couldn’t leave her…. let it keep starving…. cold … fear… or go into the perrera.
Please help her…. make yourself a godmother.  Nobody waits for her.
Without help we can’t get her through.  And if you can’t share…. maybe in your contacts there’s someone who can.
Thank you for supporting the galgos regardless of condition, age or race. They deserve it
