Galgo Rescue Almeria – more unwanted galgos arrive
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria. Helping animals in need never ends.
A few days ago, we received another cry for help—two galgos desperately needed help. so we drove to pick them up. Their owner told us that he and his wife were struggling with serious health issues and could no longer care for them. At first glance, these two sweethearts seem fine: calm, friendly, grateful. But they need medical care before they can start their new lives. Next week, they’ll have a vet checkup. That same week, two other galgo girls were dumped next to our rescue center — alone, confused, abandoned. It remains incomprehensible why asking for help is so difficult… Asking for help is free, and it can save lives. -
PACMA, SEPRONA & UCOMA – meet to discuss helping Spanish hunting dogs

On October 2nd, we held a very important meeting in Madrid with SEPRONA (National Service of the Environment) and the Central Operational Unit for the Environment (UCOMA) of the Civil Guard. We met with Major General Carlos Sarrión, head of SEPRONA, and several representatives from UCOMA to address a reality we can no longer ignore: the neglected situation faced by thousands of dogs used for hunting in Spain. (more…)

Not many people outside of Spain knew of the suffering of these wonderful hounds at the hands of the Spanish galguero and podenquero. Galgos hung from olive trees known as The Piano (this is a rarety now), podencos kept hidden in valleys locked away, let out on hunting days, often starving and dehydrated. (more…)

Learning a new system
Apologies for the lack of colourful pix on Galgo News but we have had to change to a new system and I am still getting the hang of using it.

New home for Galgo News

WE have had to move the Galgo News website to a new internet home, so that’s why we have been offline the past few days.
The site is still very much a work in progress, but we are slowly putting the pieces back together and normal service will be resumed soon.
As ever, thank you for your support over the years.

Galgos del Sur in Cordoba – helping the hunting dogs
I mentioned that our new foster dog Nera came from Galgos del Sur. This is one of the older established rescue associations in Cordoba.
Link to their work and the number of animals rescued in the first half of 2025.
Dogs hoping for forever homes..
