  • 12 October – the beginning of the Spanish hunting year

    October 12, marks the beginning of the hunting season and with it, the terrible countdown for thousands of greyhounds and hunting dogs in Spain. Once again, these noble animals, used and exploited, face an uncertain fate: abandonment, mistreatment, or death when they cease to be useful for hunting.  The cycle of abuse is repeating. Countless innocent lives are already sentenced.  Behind every specimen of breeding, there is a potential discard.  Enough with the abuse and systematic neglect.
    It is urgent and necessary to put an end to uncontrolled breeding and the cruel discardment of greyhounds and hunting dogs.  They deserve respect, love and an existence free of suffering, not mere tools to use and throw away.

  • From Heaven to Hell – The Story of the Galgo Espagnol

    I’ve been involved in the plight of the Spanish galgo and podenco for 18 years, publicising their plight long before the advent of facebook in 2011.  Not many people outside of Spain knew of the suffering of these wonderful hounds at the hands of the Spanish galguero and podenquero.  Galgos hung from olive trees known as The Piano (this is a rarety now), podencos kept hidden in valleys locked away, let out on hunting days, often starving and dehydrated.   • Galgo Romero goes to his forever home – another incredible survivor of the horror of Spain

    Romero Lisa wanting a kiss 250 Romero is another incredible galgo, abandoned as a puppy, severly ill and injured, terrified of humans, who found his way into the home and heart of an English couple in Murcia and has now joined his forever family.

    This is the link to the original story of Romero with Gaynor, Tina and the creation of Galgos del Sol. His journey towards life as a companion dog continued with a move to Malaga and the home of Lisa, friend of Charl del Rio of 112carlota galgos AGPE, and Charl tells the story of his life with Lisa and animal family.
