Galgo Rescue Almeria – more unwanted galgos arrive
A few days ago, we received another cry for help—two galgos desperately needed help. so we drove to pick them up. Their owner told us that he and his wife were struggling with serious health issues and could no longer care for them. At first glance, these two sweethearts seem fine: calm, friendly, grateful. But they need medical care before they can start their new lives. Next week, they’ll have a vet checkup. That same week, two other galgo girls were dumped next to our rescue center — alone, confused, abandoned. It remains incomprehensible why asking for help is so difficult… Asking for help is free, and it can save lives. -
Galga Reka – suffering in Seville
This beautiful galga is Reka. You will see her terrible injuries below. She was found a week ago, the injuries were not fresh, and smelled, it was not known how long she had been suffering like this. She was exhausted, hungry and ready to give up when found.
Ana from Gran Familia tells the story. ‘She had to be anaesthetised in order to clean up and sew these ugly wounds, the leg muscle has been joined from behind but possibly she will be left with a slight limp. She had some internal bleeding and a torn vulva, which would intimate she was pregnant. It is difficult to imagine how these injuries happened but Reka has had to stay in the vet clinic to have her wounds treated.

Galgos, dumped, abandoned, unwanted, and hunting has only just started!
The dumping of galgos continues, increasing now as the hunters abandon the dogs which don’t make it as hunters, breeding bitches etc. Cobie of Scooby asks (on Facebook) ‘Why do they bring them to a perrera where they will be killed after 21 days and not 40 km. further to Scooby where they are safe?? I will never understand that. Anyway, this morning I took from the perrera in Simancas these 3 female beauties which can be taken of from the deathlist now and certainly will be adopted very soon to live a happy life with a loving family. They are young, beautiful and very, very sweet!’
And 8 more in the Gesser killing station, Cadiz; some of them have been reserved. But you can see from the pictures how frightened they are, not understanding why they are there. I suppose the only good thing we can say about the galguerros dumping them at the killing station is that it is better than hanging them, dumping on motorways or dropping down wells.

Update from El Albergue on galga dumped in a rubbish bin
Update on the galgo dumped in a rubbish bin. ‘It is a female galga, and is very serious, especially from a strong blow to the head but still alive. We are waiting to see how it evolves and will soon need a CT scan (scanner) of the head. She is now hospitalized at a veterinary clinic. Please, if you know who wants to help with veterinary expenses let us know, because in our humble association we can do no more, but the cases that come to us are so desperate that we can not ignore them and look the other way. A hug and thank you very much for your interest.’

IDOD Dog Walk – walking lanes & tracks in France for rescued dogs in Spain
International Day of the Dog is now into its 6th year, always on the last Sunday in April. 2011 so happens to also be Easter Sunday, so I held my fundraising IDOD Dog Walk a week early on 17th April. The sun shone brightly on St Pardoux with over 50 dogs and their loving owners turning up for a leisurely stroll along the delightful lanes and tracks which surround this small village in Western France, where I live.

Burgos perrera, white galgo on death row – Seville, Mama galga and 8 puppies, anyone help?
In Spanish history, the White Galgo was revered – it was second in importance only to the birth of a son. There was even a Royal Medal awarded to the white galgo. How they have fallen. This white beauty is in the Burgos perrera, awaiting a painful death. If you have room for him, please contact laura@adoptanos.com

or Maribel maribeljerezsos2@gmail.com (and pray for the other dogs with him on death row)And this tale is all too often told, heartbreakingly sad for all the animals involved.
