  • 6 more unwanted galgos dumped with Galgos Rescue Almeria

    6 galgos on this weblink.

Help us save 6 galgos… they need us.  A few days ago, we received a request we simply couldn’t ignore…A plea to help 6 galgos. 6 souls who are still with their owner (a hunter) in the Extremadura region.  They have no voice. No choice. No certainty about what tomorrow will bring…We want to give them that chance. A life without fear. A warm bed. Care, love, and safety — things they’ve never truly known.
But we can’t do this alone…
To bring them to us, transport costs €70 per dog. And that’s only the beginning — they will need medical care, check-ups, vaccinations, everything required to finally give them a healthy start.  That’s why we are asking for your help.

  • Galgo mother and son rescued from the streets

    Video

    From Galgos Rescue Almeria

We start the day with some wonderful news from yesterday. In the afternoon, two volunteers set off towards El Ejido to pick up two galgos. For months, Carmen has been working hard to bring a galgo mother to safety—she had recently given birth to nine puppies and still had a young son from a previous litter by her side. Not an easy task, as a galgo used to living on the streets doesn’t allow itself to be caught easily. But perseverance pays off. (more…)

  • 70 hunting dogs desperately needing to move to shelters

    No photo description available.

Yet another sad example of the horrors endured by Spain’s hunting dogs because there is no law to protect them.

The 6 month old puppies arrived from Alentejo this week.  They were brought to Tiny Shelter by the very kind Municipal vet of Alentejo, herself. They are lovely dogs and clearly so excited to be in a new place …away from the CHAOTIC AWFUL PLACE where they lived…
All have small cuts and sores, proof that they had to fight for food , but apart from that, they are lovely ,happy, GRATEFUL puppies, excitedly smelling and investigating everything. He immediately vaccinated them , gave them very good puppy food and toys.  These are some of the lucky ones, already removed … close to 20 have been removed…there are 50 left! (more…)

The sad fate of hundreds of galgos now that hunting in Spain has finished for the season.  Hopefully someone will help this sweet soul.

This is JARA, she’s six years old and desperately needs a foster home. She was abandoned on a road and taken to Elda protectora (perrera), but she risks being put to sleep. Los Chiquitines Association would like to take her into their care but currently they have nowhere to keep her safe. Contact is Elspeth on WhatsApp

  • URGENT APPEAL for donations for Scalibor collars

Animal lovers the summer months are approaching and it’s very important to protect dogs from the sandfly that causes Leishmaniosis. Every year, unfortunately, too many dogs adopted from Spain die abroad due to ignorance, poor information, wrong diagnosis, not the right treatment… So preventing infection with the Leishmania parasite is very important. Contrary to what is often said, Leishmaniosis cannot be cured, in other words your dog will have it for the rest of his or her life. Fortunately, with proper treatment and medication, the infection can be kept under control. Regular blood tests are also recommended, that way your four-legged friend can also grow old like other dogs. We protect dogs during and before the summer months with a collar combined with a pippet. A vaccination is also possible, it’s quite expensive and studies have currently not been able to show whether this vaccination gives sufficient security. (more…)
