Seville galgos, Cuenca galgos, Albacete galgo – abandoned by galgueros Anyone help?
Please can anyone squeeze in these two temporarily, the galguero is going to get rid of them….he doesn’t say how. Puri says ‘I have no room, he is giving me until Monday to do something. I have offered a refuge that can take care of them in terms of veterinary and other expenses but do not have room, so I need shelter for two.’

Risa, saved from Jerez killing station, now looking for her forever home
This beautiful galga is Risa, about 14 months old, taken to the Jerez killing station by her galguero in December 2010, to be euthanaised along with dozens of other dogs. She was rescued on Christmas Eve with 3 other galgos, one just 5 months old, by 112carlotagalgos. She is now in foster at my home in Western France, looking for her forever home.
She has her EU passport, is microchipped, vaccinated, sterilized, negative for Mediterranean diseases, and the results are awaited for her rabies antibodies blood test for possible adoption in Britain – although she is clear for adoption elsewhere in Europe now.

Happy Endings, Chiclana – hoping so for their podencos and galgos
Happy Endings is a new association formed in southern Spain in the Chiclana area. Its founder, Margarita Gloersen is Norwegian and has been rescuing starving and injured dogs in the area for some years. This is their story.
‘My name is Margarita Gloersen from www.happy-ending-final-feliz.eu in Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz.
I have been working with dogs since I arrived Chiclana in 2005. I am from Norway, and when I came I just could not believe my day to day experiences with animals lying in the road, killed by cars and all the others just left to themselves with no chances to survive in the long run. Sooner or later they would become run over by cars, since all the trash bins are alongside the roads.

Podencos with SARA in the Canary Islands – looking for forever homes
It’s extremely hard to find forever homes for abandoned dogs on the Spanish Islands, particularly the beautiful, affectionate and loyal podencos. SARA Lanzarote have these two beauties who desperately need the chance of life outside a shelter. Andrea describes them.
Pirulo is a very friendly and affectionate Podenco. He is obedient and will always watch out for the person that’s with him. He prefers to be cuddled and stroked than go to run or hunt, which is very special for these dogs. He is as well friendly with other dogs both male and female. He likes to be taken for walks, does not pull in the lead, we think he could even go without the lead.

Black is very beautiful – adopt a black galgo – Gandalf and Romero need a home
Black is beautiful. There is nothing more stunning that a shiny black coat, sparkling with good health, finished off with a patterned collar. These two black boys have been overlooked for long enough. They desperately need their forever homes.
Romero was abandoned as a pup with a badly injured infected leg. Fearful of humans, he was nursed back to health by Gaynor and is in foster with Lisa who is working wonders teaching him what it is like to be loved. Contact Tina at Galgos del Sol to offer him his forever home, he so deserves one.
Gandalf is also in foster, another black beauty overlooked in favour of others. He’s a happy dog and would make a fantastic companion, giving love for the rest of his life. Video of Gandalf. Contact Tina or Charl about him. Please give these two boys a chance.

GalgoConnectionSpain – help save Draco, a Jerez killing station survivor
Jerez has two perreras, one municipal and one privately owned. This winter it has been difficult to keep up with the numbers of dogs in these places, especially galgos and some podencos. I haven’t been able to post them all on GN, but suffice to say that a few dozen have been taken out by rescue associations, before being killed. They range in age from a 5 month old podenca (Angela) to 1 and 2 year olds up to the mama breeding machines, 7 years upwards. Some of them are negative to diseases, others develope them after rescue and some are at the stage of simply wanting to give up on life.
Draco is one poor boy, thin, sick and with a body covered in scars.

Galgo Ken, surviving and fighting his way back to health – thanks Galgos del Sol
Yesterday I linked to an update on Nicholas, a great galgo survivor. Today I give you an update on Ken, another brave soul fighting to regain his health after being hit from behind by a vehicle. He has now been operated on and the vet is happy that there is now feeling in Ken’s back legs, and he is not in pain. Galgos del Sol continue to work closely with the vet and Ken – but it’s costly both in time, emotion and vet fees. If you can help with vet fees, donate by credit card to UK bank or Paypal to tinasolera@hotmail.co.uk.
