  • Maltreated in Murcia

Galgo pup broken leg 250 22 10 2012This young galgo is only 6 months old and already knows the bloody brutality of man. A call was received that a young dog was crying hysterically in some shrubs, obviously hurt. The volunteers went along and managed to lift it out, and immediately took it to the vet, where its injured leg was x-rayed. The verdit of the vet – the injury was not the result of an accident or a fall, but the bone was broken as a result of brutal kicking or beating with a stick or stone.

He has now been operated on and his leg bones pinned together.

  • Cheap Accommodation in Seville – bed but no breakfast!

Prodeanse galga 250 1 22 10 2012Another galga and babies who had a tough time, these are in Alcala del Rio, Seville. Luckily someone spotted the mom living in a tunnel with her 9 babies, and contacted Prodeanse, who got on with the rescue. The volunteer needed to crawl into the tunnel to get the babies, which she brought out in a shopping bag. They are all safe now, but foster homes are desperately needed, and eventual adoption homes. • Update on the Portuguese Galga

Portugal galga pup sleep 200 21 10 2012Portuguese galga – Ines updates 21/10/2012. ‘Today has been a good day.

Estrela’s owner handed over another pup, a girl this time (24’s sister), because she was too small for his liking; she is being hand-reared by a volunteer and is doing fine (pics below). Thanks to your appeal in the galgo page, and generous donations, we have managed to buy the mum a 15Kg bag of Royal canin special lactating mother feed, which she desperately needed. Some people have offered to send milk as well, so that will be very helpful.

  • Update on Galga mom and pups in Portugal – please help

Portugal galga standing 250 20 10 2012The latst update from Ines on the mama galga and pup in Portugal. It will break your heart.

‘Today (Saturday) Estrela (as we named the galga) was forced to course again, and will be forced to race tomorrow (illegal gambling also takes place in this area). She lost 3 hares today so yet again suffered abuse by her owner. When she got back to town she was set loose by the man, and she ran straight to Teresa, who fed her and gave her some cuddles. Teresa learned today that the man was about to drown yet another pup, so Teresa went to collect him (pics attached).

We could really use some more puppy milk and lactating food for the mum, so if you can help us, that would be very helpful. Paypal to engtecpedronuno@gmail.com

  • 24 reasons why Scooby enjoy picking up s..t!

It’s only the middle of October; the hunting season in Spain has now been in full swing for a month, and already the perreras are filling up with hundreds of galgos dumped there by the galgueros as ‘unfit to hunt’ – either because they lack the ‘killer instingt’ or they are sick and injured.

Scooby are hard at work trying to save many of these young hounds and Cobie writesfrom the kennels with the latest news.

  • Hunting with galgos in Spain – will it ever end?

Scooby China 250 10 2012From Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid. This poor little galga named China was brought to the Scooby residencia by a galguero because she is obviously very sick. Surely she has leishmaniosis, very much hairloss over her whole body, long nails on her feet which makes walking very painful for her, her eartips completely bare, her back and tail almost bare and a look in her eyes which makes you want to cry for feeling so sorry for her.

The galguero injected her with all kinds of stuff and gave her tablets, God may know which ones, but of course, that did no good to her so he wanted to dispose her.

  • Trip to Spain 3 – Malaga – 112carlotagalgos

Malaga 1 200A long time ago, back in the 1960/70s, way before Spain went mad building huge concrete monstrosities alongside the beach road to places like Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Tossa del Mar, Estepona, my mother used to winter there rather than survive in the damp atmostphere of Northwest England. I always imagined these places as separate holiday towns along the Spanish coast.

I was staggered to find that now they are all part of Malaga – province of Malaga to be exact.

  • Running the Paris 20km for GIN Galgos – sponsors urgently needed

Paris Eiffel Tower 150Greyhounds in Need sponsors and rehomes many Spanish Galgos, and the charity is to benefit from money raised by Caroline Grebbell who says,

‘I am running the Paris 20k Marathon on 14th October 2012 and I would like my sponsorship money to go to the Galgo cause. I had a rescue lurcher for twelve years (she was found abandoned in Ireland) and plan to adopt another once my circumstances change in regard to work etc, but I feel I want to help however I can. If I can raise a bit of cash by staggering 12 miles through Paris then it will all be worth it! ‘

Please support Caroline by sponsoring her run, you can find all the details here.

  • R.I.P Lucho

Chris Mosey, Lucho & co 250Those of you who have a copy of my book will have seen the photos and read about Lucho, who developed leptospirosis and was nursed back to health by his devoted family, especially Chris. He had a very bad start, injured, rescued by Scooby, leg had to be amputated. And yet, with his forever family in the US, he received an overload of love and care. He became ill late last year and has been nursed by both Chris and Dr Couto of Ohio University. Sadly, he lost his final fight. I am sure you will all join me in sending comfort wishes to Chris and family, inluding the two remaining canines.
