Podencos make fabulous pets too, especially if you prefer an active dog rather than a 40mph couch potato like a galgo! Podencos love long walks, playing, agility work…and snuggling up with you on a sofa! See the latest appeals on Podenco Post for podencos on death row in Valencia, Huesca, Malaga.

Malaga, podenca Ana needs your help
This is an appeal for help for vet fees and food for Ana, a podenca Andaluz abandoned, injured and with pups near Valencia. She was eventually rescued, after more than 2 months of gaining her trust, and is now with 112carlotagalgos being repaired, healed and prepared for her forever home. Read her story here. Remember, podencos suffer just as much as galgos at the hands of the galgueros.

xbred Galgos, xbred Podencos, the result of abandoned bitches in season
Do you remember this photo? An abandoned galga, surviving life with puppies beneath a Cordoba motorway. She and two puppies were rescued; the bitch has been adopted, but Taz and Wolf, her babies, are still looking for forever homes. The problem of xbred dogs of any race is that not so many people want to adopt one. So realistically, they can suffer more than pedigrees who might eventually get adopted.
Charl del Rio of 112carlotgalgos discusses the problem, and re-introduces Gandalf, Henrietta, Taz and Wolf. Contact her if you can offer one of them forever in your home.

Leishmaniasis – from negative tests to positive tests – be aware
Those of you who have read my book will have been introduced to Lucho, an amazing survivor of the Spanish holocaust, adopted by Chris in the US from Scooby Medina. He developed leptospirosis and Chris kindly wrote a case history about her experiences with Lucho and beating the disease.
Earlier this year, Lucho developed Leishmania. Even though he tested negative before leaving Spain, the disease can lie dormant and poor Lucho succumbed. Chris shares her experience here.
