Do you remember this photo? An abandoned galga, surviving life with puppies beneath a Cordoba motorway. She and two puppies were rescued; the bitch has been adopted, but Taz and Wolf, her babies, are still looking for forever homes. The problem of xbred dogs of any race is that not so many people want to adopt one. So realistically, they can suffer more than pedigrees who might eventually get adopted.
Charl del Rio of 112carlotgalgos discusses the problem, and re-introduces Gandalf, Henrietta, Taz and Wolf. Contact her if you can offer one of them forever in your home.
This pretty lady is a galgo x podenco; you can see from the trouser leg that the man holding her is in khaki. He is a hunter who is now looking for a ‘friend’ to take the bitch, as he no longer wants her. At least he hasn’t just dumped her. So if there is anyone reading, in the Cadiz area, please contact Maribel maribeljerezsos2@gmail.com 605637101 Maribel between 9 – 5.30
There are hundreds of xbred podencos and galgos throughout Spain, mostly the result of the careless abandonment of the dogs after hunting. As soon as an abandoned bitch comes into season, male dogs scent here from miles around and the poor thing can be covered by several males. Rehoming the xbred puppies then becomes a problem.
Gandalf has been waiting a year or so for a forever family, Henrietta was rescued from life under a pile of tyres, and Taz and Wolf are growing quickly into beautiful, affectionate, well trained companion dogs.
