Spanish holidays in Seville and Cadiz – not for the galgos?

macu19782010@hotmail.comMilagros is another poor victim of human selfishness, rescued from the worst of hells; Was a victim of the famous beggar that keeps puppies constantly locked in a dirty little carrier. We believe that the suffering of Milagritos ended the day we rescued him. But little did we know what was in store for him.

Spanish Guardia Civil – law enforcers? What a joke!
One of the things which I find really frustrating is how much back biting goes on between refuges and associations, whether in Spain, Belgium, France…… At the end of the day, for me, it is about the dogs, who cares who is ‘president’ of which association, who runs what refuge so long as it complies with GEE. For goodness sake, it’s about the animals, not about people and politics….
I was in a car park in Spain and where a little puppy, probably about 5 months old, looked like a x poodle, was wandering around loose. I went to take it up when a couple of young Spanish restrained me. It was their puppy, they said. As I don’t speak Spanish, I was unable to answer them as I would have liked to. I dread to think of how it ended up…certainly not microchipped, vaccinated and in a loving family home….more likely in a shelter, if it hadn’t been killed by a lorry driving into the car park.

Life is cheap on the streets of Spain
I was told a story by some friends who have been in Southern Spain for a few months. They were helping to catch a podenca living rough with her puppies at the side of a road, scavenging around rubbish bins to survive. It took over two weeks to catch them, the puppies first. Unfortunately during this time, one of the puppies got onto the road and was knocked down. The driver did not stop, but the car behind did, pulled into the side of the road and went to rescue the pup. Before he could, the Guardia Civil pulled up, told the young Dutch driver he couldn’t park, taken away and fined 200 euros. They weren’t interested in the injured puppy.
It managed somehow to draw itself off the road and hide and was eventually found and taken to the vet. Sadly it died.

The reality of Spain – this is what makes the animal rescuers ashamed of their countrymen
This is the reality of Spain. This is what the volunteers cope with, emotionally and physically. This is what makes them ashamed of the hunters and the dog breeders and those who give their country a bad name. The two associations involved in the rescue of these animals are Scooby Medina and Benjamin Menhert fondation.

Voice for the Voiceless – Galga Savia – please help the animals
This is Savia – she is blind! She was found by a Spanish girl and was living in a field near to the old mineworks on the outskirts of Mazarron. Noah’s Arc went to the field where they eventually found SAVIA laying in the sun. When they got near her she
immediately got up and they could see that she had cataracts on both eyes.
Unfortunately when they tried to put a collar and lead on her she took flight. One hour later they managed to catch her. -
