This is Maxima, one of three beautiful galgo pups saved from death row in the local perrera, where they were suffering from dehydration and diahorea, now in foster in Aguilas. The tiger-stripe one (bottom pix) is Kate, who is the noisiest and bossiest! No name with the top one. Photos taken when they were 3 months, old, now they are 5 months. Contact Antoinette if you can offer them forever homes. http://www.sananimal.org/

Closing down a bad perrera – creates more problems than it solves
Closing down a perrera does not solve any problems, it simply creates more problems. Many perreras keep the dogs and cats on death row in reasonably clean conditions, with food and water. They are also happy to allow adoptions of the animals, to give them a second chance of life. Other perreras keep the animals in atrocious conditions, as we know from publicity on the Internet.
At the end of the day, improving the conditions for animals in the bad perreras should be the priority, not closing them down. I posted a link to an appeal organised by a third party to close down Mairena perrera but stated that I did not agree with it. Comments further down the post also confirmed that other people agreed there are preferable solutions.

Galga Salva, burnt with acid – Galgos del Norte update
You remember the story of Salva, the galga found in the perrera in Burgos, burned with acid, rescued by Galgos del Norte. Sadly she lost her fight for life. This is a translation from their website.
‘Salva has left us, dehydration from the burns affected all her internal organs and she not been able to continue fighting.

Scooby Medina, Pro-Galgo – the truth about life in Spain
Pro-Galgo – illustrating life for a galgo in Spain, and still the hunters and politicians deny this happens every year. Where are their heads stuck? Up their backsides!
Tribute to Fermin Perez of Scooby Medina
Life in Scooby Medina – these galgos are still there – and now hunting has begun again. How many thousands more of these beautiful ‘disposable dogs’ have been born to compound the problem.
Don’t forget, Scooby really welcomes volunteers – make volunteering in a Spanish refuge your next holiday.

Spanish galgos are already being stolen for hunting next month!
Everyone in Spain either working in shelters/refuges or who has adopted a galgo – be warned, there is news already of loose galgos in Murcia being taken by the gitanos/galgueros ready for hunting starting next month….galgos in unattended shelters -(the majority of shelters don’t have anyone there overnight) are particularly at risk – and if the thieves are challenged, they are likely to become aggressive.
Pray for every galgo, rescued or still on the streets.
