  • British greyhounds in the Chinese meat market

Not galgos but their British cousins greyhounds.  British greyhounds (including Ireland) also have a hellish life.  Greyhound racing is not a sport yet the Greyhound Racing Board of Great Britian still insists there is no cruelty involved.  Many unwanted greyhounds end up shipped to China where their hellish life gets even worse.  And hundreds end up in the Chinese meat market.

  • In Memory of Midnight Terror, an Australian greyhound in Macau, China

    Macau Midnight Terror 400 11 2018
In the past I have reported on the Australian Greyhound breeders and trainers sending their unwanted hounds to China. This they have vehemently denied doing! Here’s proof that they did, although this story does have a sort of happy ending.

    From Albano Martins in Macau

‘Midnight Terror, almost 10 years old, born on 1st December 2008, Australian, male, black color, died in Macau Municipal Kennel with Septicaemia, even after a blood transfusion by another greyhound!

I had been the day before in the Kennel to see his health situation and i found there Mr. Leung Chi Keung, his future owner, taking care of him! He has been a constant volunteer taking care of Midnight Terror from the first beginning in Canidrome! This is a good example of a responsible adopter!

On 15 November at 3:00 pm, Midnight Terror was cremated in Coloane Municipal Kennel and Mr.Leung will keep his ashes paid already by him!

    Thanks Mr.Leung Chi Keung!

  • Hunting with galgos in Spain – will it ever end?

Scooby China 250 10 2012From Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid. This poor little galga named China was brought to the Scooby residencia by a galguero because she is obviously very sick. Surely she has leishmaniosis, very much hairloss over her whole body, long nails on her feet which makes walking very painful for her, her eartips completely bare, her back and tail almost bare and a look in her eyes which makes you want to cry for feeling so sorry for her.

The galguero injected her with all kinds of stuff and gave her tablets, God may know which ones, but of course, that did no good to her so he wanted to dispose her.

  • Urgent – letters needed to Macau to save the greyhounds

    Received yesterday, 3/4/2012

‘Late Friday night, we learned that the Canidrome, China’s only dog track, had agreed to end the killing of greyhounds and institute a an adoption program for ex-racers.

This news, coming less than five months after the start of our Rescue Brooklyn campaign, was wonderful to hear. The first dogs ever to leave the track alive were to be sent to local animal protection organization ANIMA on Monday morning. Read the announcement here.

  • Pregnant galga, abandoned on the streets of Cordoba – please help

Pregnant galga Cordoba 3 08 2010 300 One of the things which really sickens me and also makes me exceedingly angry is the abandonment of animals – everywhere. I receive many emails containing appeals for help for abandoned animals, or mass cullings of stray dogs or wild mustangs. The reason there are so many unwanted animals is because of MAN, as in human. If there were not people like breeders of animals, dog and horse shows, circuses – to name just a few – there would not be the need for refuges and rescue associations.

This is yet another example of irresponsibility and lack of care – a galga abandoned on the streets of Cordoba, prey to any dog which scents her when she comes into season. The result, she is still wandering the streets of Cordoba, heavily pregnant and about to give birth to yet more unwanted dogs.
