And another sweet brindle dog with Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert
‘We have just welcomed Pipi, this beautiful little dog with sweet big eyes that tell us a sad story for now, we hope they will soon be able to tell us a very different story. Pipi arrived with a cut in her neck, which seems to indicate that she has been tied for a long time. We are going to heal the wound but we hope to heal another deeper wound, being a battered dog. We would like you to find a home soon. Would you give her that opportunity? Thank you’

If you want to help us financially:
My first greyhound had such a superb temperament that she became a PAT dog…Pets As Therapy…in the UK and regularly visited an old folks’ home to spend time with the residents, especially those who had been dog owners but couldn’t have a dog in the home.
Here is a lovely story about a Spanish Galga who is doing a similar job – but this time in New Mexico in a prison.

Seville in the news again. This time Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert are holding a Manifestation on 12th May 2013 for everyone involved in the plight of the galgo, whether it be saving them, healing them, rehoming them, adopting them, starting at 11.30. Visit their website for more news. And here’s the link to Martin Usborne’s visit to FBM earlier this year. And a report of a visit by Greytalk to FBM in March 2013. Video of galgos at FBM – over 500 dogs live there!
Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert urgently require photos of any galgos injured as a result of ‘training’ beside moving motor vehicles. Email them to comunicacion@fundacionbm.com
A documentary about the work of Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert. It is in Spanish but the pictures tell the tale anyway. Some of the photos of hung galgos are old ones, some are in my book, but the film of the galgos in the hands of the hunter, the fear, the conditions, etc, illustrate just how little these men care for the dogs they have. It also illustrates the rehabilitation work done by the association.
Members of Greyhounds Rescue Holland recently visited 3 shelters in the Seville area. Read about the trip on this link.
This poor soul was found on 16 April near the shelter Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville. Galgos aus Spanien are helping her recovery. which will be expensive! She is a small galga, only 52cm, and looks as though her hair will be brindle. She’s been called Violeta.
Yet again, we ask how can any ‘human’ being let a dog get in this condition.
I’m pleased to be able to tell you all that Pro-Galgo and Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert have taken the latest batch of galgos at Gesser killing station, Jerez. You can see the photos of some of them here, by the fireside at Pro-Galgo. Sadly, as President of Pro-Galgo Mo Swatek says, their places will soon be taken up by dozens more.
‘We have taken 14 of the Gesser galgos and 20 went to Fundacion Benjamin
Mehnert near Seville. With other associations, a total of 48 galgos have been saved recently from Gesser.’
Remember, they will all need forever homes. Please contact the associations direct on the links above, if you can help in any way, including donations for vet fees.
