It’s something regular readers of Galgo News already know; the numbers of galgos dumped at the perreras and shelters because they won’t take responsibility for keeping them during the summer months when they can’t hunt. What selfish bastards – expecting everyone else to deal with the problem they cause. We WILL beat them one day, but in the meantime, here’s an article by Greyhounds Rescue Holland about the problem.

The horror of Las Cuadras, Seville – the reality of life for the animals there
L’Europe des Levriers is the French association from whom I adopted my 3 galgos and with whom I have worked on rescues. This is the story of the gypsy camp of Las Cuadras in Seville, as told by their President, Beatrice Monnet, on their website. At the end of this report, you can see a video of the Fundacion Benjamin Menhert on one of their rescues – 600 dogs taken out of the camp in one year!

Cristina, our Vice President, regularly rescues galgos and podencos from this hell. We go to our kennels in Madrid every 3 or 4 months to bring these rescued dogs to France for adoption.
