L’Europe des Levriers is the French association from whom I adopted my 3 galgos and with whom I have worked on rescues. This is the story of the gypsy camp of Las Cuadras in Seville, as told by their President, Beatrice Monnet, on their website. At the end of this report, you can see a video of the Fundacion Benjamin Menhert on one of their rescues – 600 dogs taken out of the camp in one year!
‘Since its inception in 2006, L’Europe des Levriers has repeatedly denounced the terrible camp galgueros Las Cuadras in Seville. Cristina, our Vice President, regularly rescues galgos and podencos from this hell. We go to our kennels in Madrid every 3 or 4 months to bring these rescued dogs to France for adoption.
Hard to imagine such a place without going there. Yet one day, journalists have dared to film the horror in which the poor galgos and podencos live, not to mention the state of the horses, donkeys and mules also there. It’s kind of slum below the motorway from Seville. The dogs are crammed into huts and under tarpaulins, without ever leaving, except for hunting. They have nothing to eat and drink dirty green water. They are never cared for and live among the rats. They die there, in general indifference.
Repeatedly condemned by animal welfare groups, the authorities do nothing to stop this. Worse. An association denounced, it was raided by the Guardia Civil with the aim of destroying or confiscating the dogs they rescued. Two months later, everything in the camp was rebuilt.
Gradually, we try to resume our work and try to save the galgos most at risk.
The list of galgos and podencos we managed to save Las Cuadras is long. Among them: Samy, Belinda, Sabana, Calma, Denira, Dorito, Violetta, Aga, Dunia, Nadia, Polka, Selena, Purita, Pepe … and much more. These Spanish greyhounds need care when they arrive in Madrid before being put up for adoption. It’s our job to save them from abuse.
Watch this video to understand what we face every day. Help us to get them out of there by fostering and adopting them.

Lost for words again! Horrific!
i cant look at vidios i know without looking what these poor galgos and pods go through its awful
There is a problem with the judicial system. They lack a special court to try animal cases. They need animal police to serve summonses. Without an organized chain of command and a tribunal to hear cases within a well implemented legal frame work, all you can do is rescue.

What you say is very true. We have to all
keep putting pressure on the government, both national and provincial, to deal
with the problem of abandoned animals. They really are ostriches, heads
buried in the sand.

Humans have been using animals for so many hundreds of years for their own selfish needs. It is going to take patience, and education in order to change these behaviors. They will not magically disapear with the courts being involved.
