Why are hunting dogs not included in the animal welfare law?
Dogs, who are sadly used for hunting, are not included in the animal welfare law because the hunting lobby has exerted strong political pressure to prevent them from having rights.In this way, they remain completely unprotected so that hunters can continue to use them as mere tools in their hunting practices. Why are millions of wild boars, roe deer, and rabbits raised annually to repopulate hunting grounds? Millions of species intended for hunting are raised annually in hunting farms so that hunters have enough prey to kill.These hunting farms carry significant risks and negative consequences for animals and the natural environment.An argument in favor of hunting is that it helps control populations of wild boars and rabbits.Hunting does not help control animal populations; on the contrary, it is the hunting industry itself that produces artificial overpopulations causing imbalance in wild populations. -

Of more than 2000 investigated and detained for animal abuse between 2021 and 2023, none went to prison. This is what the parties in Congress allow.

TEGalgos en Familia is a shelter dedicated to the rehabilitation and adoption of Galgos, founded with love and commitment by Vera Thorenaar. The mission of this wonderful project is to offer a fresh start to these elegant dogs, providing them with the care and attention they need to heal and thrive. -
Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville – over 400 dogs need help
WE NEED HELP. NOW MORE THAN EVER. There are times when a protector doesn’t need applause. Today we have over 400 animals in our care. Over 400 lives that depend entirely on us to eat, receive veterinary care and have a chance at a future. Among them are more than 40 animals with complex and serious veterinary treatments. Injured, sick dogs, recovering from surgeries, animals needing daily medication, tests, income and constant care. They are added to our cats and many other cases that require continuous attention.
The reality is we don’t have public aid. We don’t receive grants to cover this work. Everything we do, every rescue, every operation, every thoughtbag, every medicine, every life saved, exists because of the people who decide to help us. Thanks to you guys. (more…)

It’s not too late to volunteer at a Spanish rescue shelter for your holidays in 2026. Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville explains what is involved and how grateful the associations are for all the help they can get. Contact a shelter direct, they usually provide accommodation for volunteers too.

Very gradual desensitisation…
While the dogs were under anaesthetic the vet vaccinated, microchipped and castrated the galgos. Their convalescence has been very good and they recovered well. Now we have to continue the gentle and steady rehab efforts with them. Of course our approach to the care of these
dogs is supportive with consistent positive reinforcement and very gradual desensitisation to potential triggers. We have kennelled each
one of these galgos with a more confident galgo or galgos, where feasible, to help each one of them build trust and gain confidence. We are pleased that very early signs of progress are starting to show but we still have a long road to travel. -

And another sweet brindle dog with Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert‘We have just welcomed Pipi, this beautiful little dog with sweet big eyes that tell us a sad story for now, we hope they will soon be able to tell us a very different story. Pipi arrived with a cut in her neck, which seems to indicate that she has been tied for a long time. We are going to heal the wound but we hope to heal another deeper wound, being a battered dog. We would like you to find a home soon. Would you give her that opportunity? Thank you’
