  • Galgo thrown alive into a well and then sealed in! Spain today!

    On one of my many visits to rescue associations in Spain, I went with some volunteers to a well where there were sometimes galgos thrown down kuve – to die.  It still goes on today!

    ⚠️ WE REPORT a very serious case of animl abuse and abandonment in Villanueva de la Serena.
    On Sunday, firefighters and local police in Villanueva de la Serena rescued a greyhound that had been thrown into a well about 8 meters deep, with no chance of getting out on its own, condemned to a slow death from starvation, hypothermia or drowning.

  • Galgo Claus – urgent adoption in a forever home

    Galgo Claus is just turned 6 years old, he is a loving white galgo who gets along with cats and children, he is calm and loves cuddles.
    He has been living on one floor for several years, but one of his children has developed an immune disease that greatly affects his fur, and he has to change direction. He behaves great at home and can handle his needs.
    He is super healthy, up to date and sterilized.  He knows very well what a shelter is and doesn’t deserve to go back there, we will find his family among everyone.

  • Chained to starve to death – safe with Galgos Rescue Almeria

    At the end of last week, we received a call for help that we simply could not ignore. What we found there touched us deeply…
    High up on a mountain, far away from everything and everyone, stood a ruin that could only be reached on foot. And there, from a distance, we caught a brief glimpse of him… a Galgo who had been abandoned and left to fend for himself.
    How is this even possible? How can anyone abandon a living, feeling soul in such a place, under such appalling conditions? A dog who depends on humans, yet was condemned by those very same humans to a life on a chain.

    🎤 Why are hunting dogs not included in the animal welfare law?
    🐕 Dogs, who are sadly used for hunting, are not included in the animal welfare law because the hunting lobby has exerted strong political pressure to prevent them from having rights.
    In this way, they remain completely unprotected so that hunters can continue to use them as mere tools in their hunting practices.
    🎤 Why are millions of wild boars, roe deer, and rabbits raised annually to repopulate hunting grounds?
    🐗 Millions of species intended for hunting are raised annually in hunting farms so that hunters have enough prey to kill.
    These hunting farms carry significant risks and negative consequences for animals and the natural environment.
    An argument in favor of hunting is that it helps control populations of wild boars and rabbits.
    Hunting does not help control animal populations; on the contrary, it is the hunting industry itself that produces artificial overpopulations causing imbalance in wild populations.

  • Spanish hunter – banned from keeping dogs ignores and continues…

    🔴 A hunter convicted of the Cabra horror case, tried again for having animals despite being banned.
    The original case dates back to October 30, 2020, when Asociación Galgos del Sur, along with the Cabra Local Police and the Guardia Civil, rescued and confiscated 24 dogs, mostly mongrels and mutts, from the farm, which was dubbed the “farm of horrors.”
    The convicted individuals chained some of the animals to the farm’s waterless wells, left without food, surrounded by filth and the remains of other dogs that had died on the spot, and with no shelter to take refuge from the harsh weather conditions, relying solely on plastic bags and containers with metal edges.

    She is a dog named “candy” who is only 1 year old and was abandoned on the verge of giving birth, she has already raised her puppies and now it’s her turn to find a family that will love her forever.
    She is super healthy, she is small in stature for a Spanish greyhound. Super sociable with all kinds of dogs and with humans she is incredibly playful and affectionate!!

  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville – over 400 dogs need help

    WE NEED HELP. NOW MORE THAN EVER.   There are times when a protector doesn’t need applause.  Today we have over 400 animals in our care. Over 400 lives that depend entirely on us to eat, receive veterinary care and have a chance at a future.  Among them are more than 40 animals with complex and serious veterinary treatments. Injured, sick dogs, recovering from surgeries, animals needing daily medication, tests, income and constant care. They are added to our cats and many other cases that require continuous attention.

    The reality is we don’t have public aid.  We don’t receive grants to cover this work.  Everything we do, every rescue, every operation, every thoughtbag, every medicine, every life saved, exists because of the people who decide to help us.  Thanks to you guys. (more…)

    Animal lovers the summer months are approaching and it’s very important to protect dogs from the sandfly that causes Leishmaniosis. Every year, unfortunately, too many dogs adopted from Spain die abroad due to ignorance, poor information, wrong diagnosis, not the right treatment… So preventing infection with the Leishmania parasite is very important. Contrary to what is often said, Leishmaniosis cannot be cured, in other words your dog will have it for the rest of his or her life. Fortunately, with proper treatment and medication, the infection can be kept under control. Regular blood tests are also recommended, that way your four-legged friend can also grow old like other dogs. We protect dogs during and before the summer months with a collar combined with a pippet. A vaccination is also possible, it’s quite expensive and studies have currently not been able to show whether this vaccination gives sufficient security. (more…)

    Even on Sundays, the rescue centre never rests.  When the phone rings, we often already know what time it is. Once again, a call for help. A small galgo girl… no longer wanted. Discarded. Thanked for her work, then cast aside as if she no longer had any worth.

    Our GRA van left immediately, as it so often does, heading to the agreed location. There she stood. Small and unsure. Her eyes said it all: she had had enough. Years of obedience, running until her body could no longer cope, enduring humiliations she never deserved. And yet, when we approached her gently, her tail gave a tiny wag. A spark of trust… despite everything.  For this little girl, a new adventure begins today. (more…)
