Winter is coming and the galgos in shelters waiting to be adopted need coats to keep warm and dry. Here are two patterns, one knitted. The waterproof coats are best as the dogs are kept in kennels and compounds and need to be dry. A friend of mine uses old nylon tents, old blankets, men’s ties for fastening. So it doesn’t need to cost a lot to make a coat – doesn’t matter what it looks like – the dogs will be glad of protection from the weather. There’s a list of associations here, if you want to make and send some coats.

Greyhounds in Need sponsors and rehomes many Spanish Galgos, and the charity is to benefit from money raised by Caroline Grebbell who says,
‘I am running the Paris 20k Marathon on 14th October 2012 and I would like my sponsorship money to go to the Galgo cause. I had a rescue lurcher for twelve years (she was found abandoned in Ireland) and plan to adopt another once my circumstances change in regard to work etc, but I feel I want to help however I can. If I can raise a bit of cash by staggering 12 miles through Paris then it will all be worth it! ‘
Please support Caroline by sponsoring her run, you can find all the details here.

Another great survivor of the galgo hell in Spain. Mario
I have now composed a letter to the Federacion Espanola de Galgos, the ‘umbrella’ association in Spain to which the other galgo hunting federations belong, and invite you to send copies also. Thanks to Dioni Del Rio for the Spanish translation. (An English version is at the end). Please copy and paste, and post. Please ask as many of your friends and contacts to join in.
