Refuge Life – by Alan Brian of Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Spain
REFUGE LIFE
by Alan Brian
Who said that refuge life is not good, that is not strictly true,
We are fed and watered every day, cos that’s what the owners do.We can go into our great big compound when the cleanings being done,
It even has a little pool to cool us from the sun. There’s even a place where we can go to lay out in the shade
That’s got carpet on the dirt but it’s not been properly laid. That’s another thing about refuge life; they never do forget
That if you’re feeling poorly, you get taken to the vet.We even have a misting system to cool us from the sun,
So refuge life is not so bad,So please tell everyone.
Click on this link if you would like to read more of Alan’s poems, and this link to donate to feeding and vet bills or sponsor one of their 70 dogs.

Update on Polar – Clinic with Caroline Ingraham, Zoopharmacognosy
Today Polar and I attended a day clinic with Caroline Ingraham – check her website here to discover the incredible work she does, including with the RSPCA and other animal welfare organisations in the UK as well as one or two Spanish vets.
Her stay in our area of France included visiting farm animals and an equestrian livery yard. Today the subject was dogs. I’d been invited to take Polar along because of his disability. There were two other dogs present, French rescued dogs – one a little hunting dog like a beagle without a tail who had been very badly beaten, with no confidence atall, and the other a labrador x who had spent his early years on a short chain, forgotten about, who had jealousy problems.
So we had 3 dogs with very different problems.

Rescued galgas flying the flag in Yorkshire with The Blue Greyhound
Regular readers will know The Blue Greyhound shop on ebay where Susan Dawson raises funds for greyhounds and galgos. Her two galgas were recently chosen as winners of a competition and they were at Bark in the Park last weekend, in east Yorkshire. Here’s what Susan says, and some fabulous photos
The Blue Greyhound had a stall yesterday (17/8/2013) at Bark in the Park, a great show that we attend every year which promotes good dog ownership. Lots of great stalls. It was also a special day for Eli and Cassie who received their Dog Star Awards.

Many thanks to Mandy Cash for taking me through the ‘complicated to me’ process of uploading a couple of short videos of my disabled galgo pup Polar at play with his best buddy Bracken. Hope you enjoy them and to see how he copes with his damaged hind leg. Meanwhile, galga Carmela sleeps through it all!
