Galgos del Sol is a small association formed in October 2010 by Tina Solera, who had spent the previous few years saving galgos and podencos which ended up in Los Infiernos dog shelter. In the past 7 months GdS have rescued and rehomed 53 galgos and podencos. But as with all associations, they exist on donations and fundraising. Here are four of the latest galgos to be rescued – from the side of a motorway, in the middle of a lorry transport area, terrified loose on the campo. Happy Ending Final Feliz – but not such a happy ending
Story just received, illustrates some of the problems facing the volunteers who struggle to help the abandoned dogs of Spain.
‘For the last year we have been arranging car boot sales every Sunday in a place called El Marquesado, and successfully got an income for the animals that need help in our area. It has been very hard workload on all our volunteers, but they have done the job without complaining. This car boot sale has been held on what we thought was wasteland as this was an unfenced, abandoned area. We were unable to find out if anyone owned it.
