  • Two podencas desperately needing forever homes

FREYA Tina 09 2010 250 This is Freya, a podenca at Los Infiernos refuge, Murcia, where Tina is a volunteer. Tina explains ‘She is a podenco suffering terribly. She has been chewing at her own leg and has broken through the skin. She doesn’t want to eat and had lost a lot of weight but volunteers have been hand feeding her wet food so that is helping. I’ve had her moved to a more comfortable place in the refuge and she is improving but would like to see her leave asap. She is approx 10mths, great with people but nervous with other dogs until she gets to know them!’

    Please contact Tina direct.

And don’t forget sweet Mary, currently in a kennels and desperate for her forever home. Contact Charl direct.

  • Pregnant podenca on a Spanish street – in danger of the hunters

CRIS 7 SEPT Charl 250 Yet another little lady, abandoned on the streets to survive, with a bellyful of pups! The refuges are full to overflowing, but it’s important to get this podenca off the streets before she has her babies. Hunting is about to start, and it’s a dangerous time for them all to be out and insecure.

The people who sent the plea for help for her cannot take her in as they already have several cases in the same position but they would finance her journey to another place if a foster home came up

  • Podenca Mary, Galga Dana, 112carlotagalgos-desperately needing help

Mary in kennels 01 09 2010.JPG cropped You will remember I posted about the rescue by Charl del Rio of 112carlotagalgos (newly formed association) of Mary, the podenca puppy abandoned at a petrol filling station. Isn’t she absolutely gorgeous? And also Dana, a galga in kennels who is very stressed by her situation.

Charl’s association 112carlotagalgos, is just born, and so doesn’t have any backup funds -any which have been donated so far have gone out immediately to pay for vet fees and kennel costs for these two deserving dogs.

  • Mary, a young podenca rescued in Alhaurin, Spain, desperately needing help

Alhaurin baby 1 Charl 08 2010.JPG cropped 250 A picture of sheer unadulterated terror in the eyes of this little dog! Charl del Rio found her at a petrol station, lost, terrified, hungry. She managed to catch her, called her Mary as she is like a little lamb, and now tells the story.

‘I went to visit the galgo Charlie after his castration, and on the way home I stopped at the petrol station in Alhaurin, where I found this little lost soul, a baby podenco which looks like a little fox, COVERED in pinchy thorns… it was late, I got to the petrol station and thought ill put petrol in the car. I stopped walking and she came up behind me. At a distance I thought she was older than she was, but I then could see she was just a baby.

  • Podenca Andaluz Bebe – off on an adventure in rural France!

Animal Images 2008 070 250 Yet another story about a podenco! This time it is about mine, little Bebe, my Podenca Andaluz, rescued injured from a Seville motorway 2 1/2 years ago. My vet operated on her injured leg, and now Bebe is the fastest Pod on 4 legs!! I haven’t been able to train her to come to me when she is outside of the house, the vet thought she was about 5 or 6 when rescued, so probably too old to train. So when we walk the dogs, Bebe is on a harness and long lead, and then on a long tether on a long line when in the courtyard with the other dogs. Our courtyard is enclosed for galgos and Podenco Canarios and Ibicencos, but not the miniatures. We have to leave one or two small escape routes for our cat, in case she ventures into the courtyard when the dogs are loose.
