  • Galgos in Portugal needing forever homes

The galgos in Portugal have a terrible life.  Regular readers might remember Estrella, her ‘husband’ and son who were all rescued from nightmare conditions.  This is another beautiful galga rescued from similar conditions, along with 3 of her 7 puppies – the ‘owner’ kept the other 4.  If anyone can offer her a wonderful forever home, please contact the association.

    These are the puppies.

  • Update on Portuguese galgos Foguete and Esperance

    Jane Sibley 8 March 15:39

Just wanted to let you all know that I was having a little chat with Ines last night and when enquiring about our lovely Forgeuete and Esperanca the word Ines used was ‘thriving’. 😀 They are both putting on more weight and are becoming more relaxed. 😀

Obviously with everything going on, neither Ines or Teresa have had time to update us all, so I hope you will be happy with my little update. I am very happy with this news

  • Portugal Dog Rescue – Duke now in rehab with 112carlot

Whilst I was in Spain for Xmas, I spent a few days at 112carlotagalgos and got to meet Duke, son of Estrela who I fostered for a short while before taking her to her forever home in the UK. He is now looking stunning but is still very nervous and retreats to his bed or the other end of the orchard whenever someone enters. Here you can see an update on how he is doing with Charl’s special touch.

  • Urgent help needed – serious storm damage to kennels at Portugal Dog Rescue!

Portugal Dog Rescue 250 3 10 2013Remember Estrela and more recently Duke? Saved by Portugal Dog Rescue. On 22nd October the very worst happened at the shelter – the ‘temporary’ roof came down at the shelter, sadly one dog had to be pts. You can read the full story below. The new kennels which were built after an appeal earlier in the year are fine, more now need to be built in place of the ‘temporary’ one so that this never happens again.

Teresa does most of the rescuing and rehoming herself, looking after the dogs, plus having a job. An incredible lady who does not need the heartache of this happening. It costs 50 euros to build a new permanent kennel. Please help if you can, any amount helps buy some more bricks, tiles for the roof…here’s where you can donate.

  • Portugal Dog Rescue – traumatised galgo Duke urgently needs your help

Portugal Dog Rescue Duke 250 10 2013Regular readers will remember the story of Estrela, the galga in Portugal, starving, sick with pneumonia, feeding 3 puppies. Teresa Sousa and her team eventually persuaded the hunter to let them have Estrela and the pups, who regained their health and adopted. Estrela found a wonderful forever home in the UK.

Now the hunter has given Teresa Estrela’s brother who they have named Duke. Duke too is sick and traumatised. Since rescuing him, Teresa has had more dogs dumped on her and so they do not have the space nor the time to give Duke the time and space needed to heal him. Ines explains his story and their appeal for him.

  • Portugal Dog Rescue – Galga Estrela’s rescuers need help

Portugal dog box 250 2 2013Do you remember the story of Estrela, the galga in Portugal suffering at the hands of an alcoholic an drug addict wife? Teresa de Sousa and her team did an incredible job rescuing Estrela, another galga, and their puppies. Teresa badly needs funds to build some kennels to keep sick dogs separate from the healthy ones. She needs 350 euros – not a fortune. Please help her achieve her goal. Here are the details, you can donate by Paypal or credit card.

Update on Estrela. She is doing well in foster care, EU passport prepared, and it looks like she is going to come to me in France for temporary foster en route for her forever home in the UK. Teresa and Ines thank you all for your donations which helped them save the lives of the two galgas and their puppies.
