Urgent help needed – serious storm damage to kennels at Portugal Dog Rescue!

Portugal Dog Rescue 250 3 10 2013Remember Estrela and more recently Duke? Saved by Portugal Dog Rescue. On 22nd October the very worst happened at the shelter – the ‘temporary’ roof came down at the shelter, sadly one dog had to be pts. You can read the full story below. The new kennels which were built after an appeal earlier in the year are fine, more now need to be built in place of the ‘temporary’ one so that this never happens again.

Teresa does most of the rescuing and rehoming herself, looking after the dogs, plus having a job. An incredible lady who does not need the heartache of this happening. It costs 50 euros to build a new permanent kennel. Please help if you can, any amount helps buy some more bricks, tiles for the roof…here’s where you can donate.

RIP little soul. I will donate to build a few new shelters.
Does Teresa needs for her dogs some warm protective coats, need approx. how many and what race. I will send them to Teresas address.
When building new shelters I would suggest not to build them too high as the pictures shown, the wind force is less when the roof is lower, also instead of tiles it would be better to use some light material that can be fastend to the shelters construction walls.

Hi Katharina. Contact PDR direct through
their website, Ines Canavarro does all the English translation. Teresa
needs everything and anything for the dogs, besides the galgos there are many
others, small and large. Also mention your suggestion regarding the
kennels. The one which was damaged was only a temporary structure because
dogs keep being dumped on her. I think the newer kennels built earlier
this year are smaller with fenced runs. Ines will be pleased to tell you
everything. All the work and worry is taking its toll, and now, because of this,
their vets bill has increased heavily too, especially on some of the injured
dogs. Thank you for caring. Beryl
