  • Marching in Strasbourg for the Galgos & Podencos June 2012

David Strasbourg 2012 250 003My galgas Carmela and Sahara (with hubbie David) arriving at the European Parliament. I’m delighted to report that the Manifestation in Strasbourg organised by CREL had tremendous support from groups across Europe – over 1,000 people marching, with their galgos and podencos – and a borzoi and afghan. Just shows the strength of feeling against the Spanish hunters and their barbaric treatment they perpetrate on their hunting dogs, primarily galgos and podencos. Many hounds there bore the scars – where they had been cut up, beaten, burned, injured in road accidents, caught in snares – all walking on behalf of their ‘cousins’ still in Spain and still suffering. They came in family groups too, and one lady brought all 6 of her rescued galgos.

  • Murcia – June 2012 – Spanish hunters still perpetrating unbelievable cruelty on their galgos – THIS HAS TO STOP!

    News in from Scooby Medina.

Murcia: More than 16 murdered galgos found in a village in Murcia with signs that they were violently mistreated. The same galgueros there have more galgos, these were seen this week without water or food and with these hot summer temperatures…

This is a place where several hunters keep their dogs in the worst possible conditions and where they horribly kill the ones they no longer want. Murcia is a dreadful place for animals, especially galgos, and there are many such places we don’t know about. Everyone should raise a stink. But the police need to have a chance to act ( it’s the first time they act, in that part of Spain they mostly completely ignore the cruelty cases) or we can make them angry and they can just turn their backs for good.

    WARNING. EXTREMELY UPSETTING PHOTOS

  • Latest style in Galgo Transport – another survivor from Spain

Lucho transport 3 250 6 2012Regular readers of GN and those of you who have purchased my book, will remember the story of Lucho, another amazing survivor of the galgo hell in Spain, now living happily in the US. Lucho survived leptospirosis, leishmania and a leg amputation, yet still enjoys life, although he now finds walking any distance with his canine mates can be somewhat tiring. Here’s what his Mom Chris says.

‘ Lucho’s difficulty is in walking any distance. He can go several houses up the street, then needs to come back home. Whatever happened to him in Spain that caused him to lose his rear leg resulted in twisting his spine. His back is arched and his hip is abnormal so his one back leg is not strong. He gets around okay…up and down 3 steps to go out to go potty and he gets up on the sofa…..but we can’t very well take the others for a walk and have him home alone howling!’

So here he is riding in style! Eat your hearts out, galgos everywhere!!

  • Seville galgo in a terrible condition in the gypsy camp

Macu Seville gypsy galgo 1 250 5 2012This news came in in Spanish on Friday, but I’ve had to ask my friend Marisa Perez for translating, thank you Marisa..

    From Macu in Seville –

Hi, I write you from my desperation. I want to kill someone!!!

I went to the settlement to take some pictures and I saw this galgo. Alone like excrement. Everybody wanted to keep him far away, but he wanted to come near us. When I saw him, I felt my soul to break.

I say to him, ‘nobody has tried to treat your skin, you only wanted some food and water and only found kicks and laughs about your aspect. All those stupid men called me fool for taking you and put you in my car, to hug you and tell you that now you are not alone.’

  • Seville shanty town – cheap accommodation, no meals

Seville galgos Macu 5 2012This is more about the galgos in the gypsy camp in Seville which Macu is desperately trying to save. Some photos on this link, the rest are on Facebook. Inmaculada Gómez González (Sevilla) e-mail & paypal: macu19782010@hotmail.com
Saturday, May 19, 2012. Today was a very sad day. I went to the settlement to take pictures since before I left and I took them and spread when they were in residence, now a thing impossible to do, since I have no means. What I ask is help for them: benefit for partnerships that take them and seek their family, adoption, sponsors to get them out and bring to a kennels, distribution to refuges, etc…

Here are the latest ones, for which she needs help, both financial and adoptions.
