Galgo Perico – another victim of galguero abuse
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria.Perocp came unwanted by his galguero and in a very poor state. Taken to the vet, his kidneys were not functioning property. put on a drip and staying in the clinic for further treatment and observation.
Unfortunately, we have no good news to report. Sadly we received a phone call from the vet that Perico had passed away. Further analyses showed that he had Leishmania, his kidneys were hardly functioning anymore. The Leish must have been there for a long time, he spent years with his “owner” but never had any vaccination or protection. Perico is yet another victim of these abuses.
It’s a great loss for us. Perico will be cremated and return to the shelter, a tree will be planted in his memory. Rest in peace boy, you will be not alone up there over the rainbow bridge.

Sick and starved galgo in Toledo – complaint filed against the Vet
‘This is how the protector @adoptaysefeliztorrijos delivered to this galga for adoption on February 14th….. in these conditions Irene del Rio Garcia veterinarian colegiada no. 4501544 sterilizes a few days before the animal…. sign a passport with false data and false test result…. that’s right, charging 300 € and delivering the animal without any kind of contract
We have a veterinary report from the clinic where he was taken care of by emergency on February 15 where text words from the vet…. “looks like a corpse in life”, cachexia 1/5, severe tick infection and as it was to expect positive for Anaplasma and Leishmania.

Galgos en Familia – life after the floods – seeking a new shelter
From Galgos en Familia –
20 March 2025
BAD NEWS
Today we have to give you a very painful and heartbreaking news. Our shelter is closing its doors forever in this place. After seeing its condition and assessing the damage, another reconstruction is impossible, we can’t cope.
Besides the risk of losing one of our dogs has been too close this time, 2 dogs from the outside area escaped death by minutes and if the person who received the warning call, had the phone on silent or a deeper sleep, today we would be crying the death of all our dogs and we can’t cope with that.
Our shelter has always been our greatest pride, our safe place and who knows us knows how much we have fought for it, years of effort and dedication.

E-Collars and Podencos: Why We Must Push for the UK Ban
The Reality of Rescue: Healing the Broken
Every Podenco that enters rescue has a story—often one of neglect, fear, and survival. We spend months rehabilitating them, earning their trust, and helping them recover both physically and emotionally. These dogs, already so fragile, should never be subjected to training methods that rely on pain and fear.
