Not a podenco or a galgo but nevertheless a very special young dog with Scooby Medina who needs a very special home. Here’s her story.
PIPA is a very special girl. She is a puppy(born in january 2013) living with the oldies.Pipa is deaf(if not completely, almost deaf),we think she doesn´t see perfectly and, once in a while, she has an epileptic attack.
But there are many other things that make her special and loved…
A message from Ines at Portugal Dog Rescue
Dear all,
Just an update on everything that is going on: as you know, there was denouncing regarding the building work at the kennels as it needed a construction permit to be built. The mayor has meanwhile come for a visit and told Teresa not to worry as he was giving her his blessing to carry on, so it wouldn’t be a problem.
However, Teresa lives in a rented property that has always been for sale, with the agreement that if a buyer came along, Teresa would voluntarily leave. Well, that buyer has turned up and Teresa’s landlord has given her until the 31st of December to leave her current house.
First Estrela, then Duke (who travels to 112carlotagalgos today for rehabilitation prior to rehoming) and now FOGUETE, Estrela’s husband and Duke’s father. That completes the family for Portugal Dog Rescue. BHT Foguete is in a bad way and PDR desperately need help to pay for the specialist vet treatment he will need, if he survives. Read on.
Foguete is Estrela’s ‘husband’ and Duke’s father, from the same obnoxious owner. He is an 8 year old galgo that Teresa has known for years, has always been abused by his owner and legally there was nothing we could prove. The scumbag he calls owner has called Teresa this morning (9/12/2013) to take the dog away as he was having a fit and he didn’t want the dog anymore.
Polar at play yesterday, after a morning at puppy school. No tiring this boy out!

Another thought-provoking poem from Alan Brian, Pepis Dog Refuge.
GALGEROS by Alan Brian
Could we become Galgueros?
NO!
So what sets us apart?
It doesn’t take much working out, we humans have a heart.
They say no animals have a soul, so does that mean they feel no pain,
and that’s galguero thinking, but we know they’re all insane.
Each day I want to tell them,
JUST LOOK INTO THEIR EYES,
There’s love and true companionship, and they won’t tell you lies.
Tell us how you sleep at night, with a conscience oh so clear.
Can you not see the fear in their eyes, for the dogs we just revere.
I know I will never understand, what’s going through your minds.
But thank godness there are still humans here, who will love and treat them kind.
Link to a story of a galguero who shot dead his galgo in the boot of his car, in Zamora. This is a google translation.
The Guardia Civil has denounced him as an alleged perpetrator of a crime of animal abuse, to shoot the greyhound and cause death in a municipality in the county of Tierra del Pan
