• Scooby – Adopt a Senior Galgo

    Scooby Sinchy 400 9 2024
    From Scooby

‘We have quite a few senior greyhounds at the moment at Scooby, for example this super sweet girl Sinchy. She’s already 8 years old and luckily her galguero doesn’t want her anymore and so she has the chance of a better and dignified life as she deserves.

She’s quite fragile and a little shy and that’s why she’s looking for a calm family, with one or two other dogs because they give them confidence and gets along very well with all other dogs.

For more information email adopciones@scoobymedina.org Sinchy your chip: 1654.’

  • Protectora Scooby – summer newsletter – news about the damaged Scooby van

    Scooby logo 400
The Scooby summer newsletter is 12 pages long. Sadly they don’t have anyone to put it on the Internet available for me to link you to it. So over the next few weeks I’ll be posting parts of the newsletter here. The first part – there are 9! – is about the Scooby van which suffered front end damage. No photos to post as I can’t save them from the pdf file.

    ‘ The Scooby Van

Our van is back on its wheels! For that we are very grateful to a grant-funding body we contacted to help us make up the shortfall left by the insurance claim. Even though we were not at fault in the accident, the insurance policy paid only part of the cost of the repair.

And it was a big one! In addition to the damaged wing, we needed a new chassis. Our supportive mechanic and owner of our local Iveco garage restored the van to full working order within the most costeffective budget he possibly could.

  • Tripods – amazing galgos on 3 legs

    Tripod Greta 400 8 2024
Sadly some galgos end up losing a leg through being abandoned and then injured on the road. I have met a few in my 17 years involved in galgo rescue, and they are amazing – especially they can run as fast on 3 legs are on 4 – just cornering that can be a problem! Here’s a lovely tripod hoping for a forever home, with SOS Galgos in Barcelona.

‘Greta, happily adopted. Tro, waiting for his turn. They both share a peculiarity, they only have three legs. That makes them even more special, their power of overcoming never ceases to amaze us. Tro doesn’t need any special care, he’s six years old and he’s developing completely normal. Run, play, jump, climb stairs and everything with the joy that characterizes him so much.

If you want to meet Tro email us at adopta@sosgalgos.org if you can’t adopt, spread the word to give him visibility and you’ll be helping him find a home.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – Galga Kelly rescued injured from appalling conditions

    From Sandy Galgoslover.

‘We received a message from Helping Animals Almanzora that a galgo had been spotted in Pulpi. After calling the girl, Fátima Sofía, who asked for help, it turned out that the galgo was living in miserable conditions and had a wound on her front leg.

The police had been there to check whether she had a microchip, but she didn’t. No further action was taken, fortunately for the dog. When we arrived there was no trace of the injured galgo. After some searching we found her behind a house, without going into details it was clear that this person didn’t have the best intentions
    .
We took her and went straight to the vet. The wound was treated and cleaned, and she was given a microchip and name: Kelly. A blood test was also done and fortunately she tested negative for “the big four”. Kelly is safe and will be given time to recover and can look forward to a life

  • Plataforma NAC fighting for the hunting dogs of Spain and Spanish Islands

    Plataforma NAC400 8 2024
    PerrosDeCasaNoDeCaza

A hunting dog’s life is far from ideal. Despite the heroic image some associate with them, these animals often face a reality full of deprivation, danger and suffering. At the end of their “useful life,” many hunting dogs are abandoned, sacrificed, or sold to other hunters, perpetuating a cycle of suffering.

Sadly and with great powerlessness we see it daily.

It is time to recognize that these animals are sentient beings who deserve dignity and respect. We need to keep fighting to demand laws that protect them and raise awareness in society about the cruelty of hunting.
