  • Petition to the Spanish Government to save the galgos – the results!

Greyhounds in Need have sent this information about the petition they ran, which closed at the end of April. The petition received 16,738 signatures.

‘THANK YOU …………… we have been truly staggered by the worldwide support for our on-line petition to the Spanish Government. This has attracted signatures from over 40 countries and all the 50 US States. What encourages us most is the very large number of Spanish people who have signed and so often added impassioned messages calling for action by their Government. This shows us that there are many in Spain who have become aware of this problem and who really want to see improvements in their nation’s standards of animal care.’

We have to keep hammering away at the Spanish Government and the Racing and Hunting Federations. Anyone else with a petition needing signatures, send me the link. And if you haven’t already written to the federations, here’s the link to do so.

  • Galgueros deny hanging dogs – Lies, here’s the proof the Spanish hunters hang their dogs!

Starving galgo Seville Galgos112 05 2010 300 Look carefully at Polo; he was found on 28th April 2010 wandering the streets of a town near Seville. Look carefully at his neck! He is a survivor of hanging! For whatever sickening, senseless, stupid reason, this poor galgo had been hung. Presumably his weight broke the line, or he would be dead by now. I cannot believe people walked on by and ignored this poor dog!

Galgos112 tell the story of his rescue.

  • Update on Sofie – suffering as a result of unnecessary cruelty by a man in Badajoz – hell hole for galgos

Sofie mouth 03 05 2010 250 This is what Silvia says. ‘Sofie is more active, she wants to eat by herself, and can manage it but, because the iron rod holding her lower jaw in place gets dirty, which could cause infection in her jaw, the vet has decided to feed her via her neck again. More trustful and sweet,Sofie is waiting for another operation; she needs a bone in the jaw which the vet will take from her ribs.’

What an amazingly brave galga, and what an amazing vet to be able to do all this work on her. But how tragic that it was completely unnecessary, if the b…..d who kicked her in the mouth had, instead, taken her to a shelter and place of safety.

Please donate towards the next operation, even just a small amount will be appreciated very much.

  • Update on Sofie – galga brutally kicked in the mouth on the streets of Spain

Update on Sofie – Silvia reports that on 2nd May, after two operations to repair her broken jaw, Sofie managed to drink on her own, and also ate a special dog food Recovery which she was fed by the vet! She even managed some ham. What great news! To donate towards the large vet bill for all this care, please contact Silvia.

  • Urgent Appeal for Help – Anyone flying out of Madrid before the 15th May?

    Hello, Everyone!

First, I’d like to thank you all for your support — we’ve already done a lot of good this year, and we currently have a group of volunteers in Spain working at Scooby Medina! Unfortunately, they’re already bringing back as many dogs as they can, and there’s a sweet Galga named Angie that we’re trying to get back to the States as well.

We’re hoping that one of you might know someone who’s flying out of Madrid before May 15th who’d be willing to help get Angie here! We’ll take care of the costs, all arrangements after the flight lands, and any pre-flight arrangements.

If you know of anyone, please let us know as soon as possible!

Thanks so much! Best, Chris GRIN
