April and Paul Carrier run the Alpha Dog School at Rota near Cadiz.
They do an amazing job rehabilitating traumatized galgos, but they need your help to fund a specialist course, either by individual donations or, even better, a SPONSOR for the whole course fee.
Here is what April says.
Just received this in from Charl. The galga is called Hoppy, is cream, and wearing her rug.

ADANA is a Spanish animal rescue association with 20 years of experience in caring for and re-homing thousands of abandone animals. By making a pilgrimage the length of Spain, volunteers accomnpanied by dogs from their refuge in Estepona are running The Camino Project 2009.

Let me know if you are going to join in.
Galgo News is 1 year old! How time flies when you’re immersed in a project! It was actually yesterday to the date, 28/11/2007, but I was so involved with another rescue of galgos from Spain to France (how many more can France adopt?) that I didn’t have time to say ‘Happy Birthday Galgo News’ until last night, when we did pause to raise a glass and drink to another year of working with galgo and podenco rescue associations and Spanish refuges and volunteers to publicise the plight of these fantastic dogs, and work towards persuading the Spanish to introduce laws to ban hunting with these dogs, and control and limit their indiscriminate breeding, maltreatment and abandonment.
Thank you, everyone, for your support. Keep reading Galgo News and spreading the word.
And now you can find us on Twitter too. http://twitter.com/galgonews
Over 300 people attended City Hall, Barcelona, last weekend for the Egyptian Fashion Show and Maria Daines Concert organised by SOS Galgos.
Here’s a brief note from Maria about the weekend, with links to a video of the concert and pictures on the SOS Galgos website.

Last month I ran a report from the Bright Eyes Society about a forthcoming court case on Ibiza against a Spaniard who had more than 50 podencos running loose. The case was due to be heard earlier this week.
Bright Eyes Society now report that the case has been postponed in order for the accused to undergo psychological tests. A forensic woman has stated that he is mentally ill for “this case” In other words, that only in regards to animal mistreatment he is “crazy”! As this conclusion has been arrived at by someone who has no competence to deliver it, the accused will now be examined by professionals.
If you can donate to the legal costs to run this case, their Paypal system is now in English. Please help them.
This is a podenco puppy needing a home before Christmas and for life. A few weeks ago hunters were about and had a pack of dogs with them.
A few days later a puppy appeared at a friend’s home. She is around 3-4 months old and will be rough-coated. She has a very sweet temperament, loves everybody and everything.
She is lying around our friend’s house, he has no fences, is unable to keep her, has tried all the refuges – they are full – and the vet surgeries. She has no microchip and no one recognises her from around this area. The hunters never came back for her.

NOW HAPPILY WITH A ‘FOREVER’ FAMILY.
This list is by no means complete, some associations will have been missed off – for which I apologise, but I hope that if you are looking for a galgo or podenco, or wish to help an association or refuge, you will find something in your country here.
I also apologise that the associations are not broken up into either alphabetical order nor by country – simply not enough time to do it!

It’s amazing where contact via the Internet leads me, reaching out around the world to publicise the plight of the galgos and podencos, the Spanish hunting dogs.
Take heart, animal lovers in the Canary Islands, here is an introduction to SARA Lanzarote, for those of you who do not already know about it.
HELP US TO HELP THEM
And here’s what Lynne, a member of the executive committee and British co-ordinator for the SARA animal shelter on Lanzarote has to say.
