Virginie Labat, a volunteer with Passion Levriers, recently spent a week in Spain.
This is her report.
‘I needed time to know what I was going to tell you about my trip of 1 week in Extramadura, Spain.
I am a French volunteer of Passion Levriers in France. All my best friends are in Spain, and during my holiday, I went to visit them.

Levriers in Danger are appealing for medicines and coats for the refuges in Spain.
They would also like help from anyone who can help with transporting galgos and podencos from Spain to France.
El refugio del Burrito are celebrating the 2nd “fiesta de Galgos” and you, your beloved 4 legged friends, family and contacts are all invited.
It will be another GREAT day for everyone to be together for the love galgos and to highlight their desperate plight.
Its an amazing way to support their plight and huge numbers of people are needed. The galgos need you, so lets hope to see you there.
Great news from Massachusets and it’s not about Obama! This just came in from one of the campaigners to close the state’s 2 dog tracks. Erica Mueller reports.
‘Massachusetts voters approved the ballot initiative to phase out greyhound racing at the state’s 2 dog tracks by January 2010. I was very active on the Steering Committee for the first attempt, in 2000, at which time we lost by 2% of the vote.
This time, the Greyhounds won by a 12% margin. Certain other states have laws prohibiting the establishment of dog racing

Two networks which traffic in stolen hunting dogs in half of Spain were charging up to 30,000 euros for the best dogs, and sacrificing the least fit.

I’ve received this urgent appeal from the Bright Eyes Society – a Spanish hunter is due to appear in court and funds are needed by the charity to fight the case. This is their message.
Some of you will probably remember the rescue of more than 50 podenco ibicenco dogs in the island of Ibiza in May last year.
This followed our legal procedure against Bartolomé Mari Ribas, the breeder and hunter who for more than 15 years had kept his dogs in the most appalling conditions imaginable, starving, thirsty, many very sick, on the very road, where they kept getting hit by vehicles and dying or becoming crippled to add to their suffering.
