• Luz – did she need to have to go through this?

    Galgo rescue
The latest news on Luz, the beautiful white galga who was eventually caught after she had been in a really serious road accident, is that she has had to have one hind leg completely amputated, and the front leg is pinned, and these will be removed in 6 months.

  • RSPCA International – going to the dogs in Spain!

RspcaI’ve been in correspondence with Gareth Thomas, International Project Manager for RSPCA International, on the subject of the abandonment of dogs and cats in Spain, particularly with regard to galgos in my own case.

He has been extremely helpful with explaining the Society’s stand on this subject, and this is what he has to say:

‘RSPCA International focusses its aid and training on strenghtening local partners’ work to improve animal welfare, such as projects to improve responsible pet ownership, increase neutering and introduce animal welfare education into schools.

  • SKYDIVE – Action for Greyhounds UK – Friday 8th August 2008

Annie appealThank you so much to those who sponsored Annie, the founder of Action for Greyhounds UK – via the email appeal which was forwarded out for her tandem Skydive.

I’m pleased to share with you the photos taken on her ‘big day’.

Annie’s Skydive was originally scheduled for approximately 9.30/10am but due to bad weather conditions (rain and high winds), the Skydive Company had to wait for a window in the weather, and so she never got up and away until almost 2pm.

But the wait was worthwhile, and although Annie had never been in a plane before, and was rather more concerned about that than the actual jump, she was elated with the whole event. They did a ‘free-fall’ first, then the parachute opened before they hit cloud, and they descended through the cloud as they came down, which Annie said was simply amazing.

  • Karmel – latest

I’m offline at home, so not able to check on latest news from Spain, but the latest on Karmel is that she is on double dose Megasolene for 3 weeks and then we reduce the amount to see what dose is small enough to keep the disease under control.

She is being bathed once a week to treat her damaged skin and hair, and is a happy personality, but losing weight – 6 kilos in the last 3 weeks.

  • Animal Protection Law in Spain – Denouncing Animal Cruelty in Spain

Logo protestEach Spanish region has its own legislation for animal protection, some even have none. Read what the Bright Eyes Society says.

Bright Eyes Society also has this suggestion for denouncing cruelty in Spain.

This link quotes Animal Protection Law in Andalucia. Scroll down the page to the appropriate heading.

    Interesting read on EU legislation.

  • Just a baby safe in his carer’s arms.

Galgo puppy theftThis is Eros.  Look long at his gentle trusting smiling face.  He’s not even a year old, just a baby.  He’s just been stolen by the galguerros from the sanctuary of the refuge trying to rehome him.  What expression of fear and terror must be on his face now.

Help the campaigns to wipe out this cruelty, wipe out hunting with galgos, control their breeding, put an end to horrors of their murder.

Join my campaigns, write to the Spanish Prime Minister, email the Minister of the Environment, sign all the petitions! If you’ve already done it, do it again!

  • Hair Restorer – natural remedies?

Karmel is losing hair all over her body, as the pistules from her illness dry up. I have used comfrey for hair restoration on my horses, when they have had an injury involving hair loss, but, it’s sticky, so no good for a dog which lies down sleeping much of the day! Can anyone recommend a natural remedy which I can buy in France, which will help restore the hair and return my galga to her beauty?
