Spain is the country in Europe that abandons the most dogs . Specifically, those who suffer the most are hunting dogs, of which there is a massive breeding, mistreatment and abandonment. The Ministry of Agriculture wants to differentiate hunting dogs from others in terms of the obligations of their owners. From here we want to start this petition that advocates not making distinctions.
That all dogs have the same rights would imply that hunters would have to comply with the considerations that are required of the rest of the owners of those animals.
Things like what:
An individual cannot have more than five young to hunt or sell them.
Their sacrifice must always be justified by incurable injuries and be carried out by a collegiate veterinarian who performs it “in humane conditions” to avoid the well-known spectacle of dogs hanged or killed by gunshots or stones or dropped down wells.
It is forbidden to leave dogs on terraces, storage rooms, basements or vehicles and without supervision for 24 consecutive hours
In the case of loss, it is communicated within a maximum period of 48 hours so that it is not considered as abandonment, a practice fined up to 100,000 euros.
Hunters who don’t mistreat their dogs have no problem with complying with these rules and with the law including their dogs. The argument used by those who want to differentiate between hunting dogs and the rest, is that they are not companion animals — something that people who live with hounds, greyhounds or mastiffs can deny. This shows that part of this group understands animals as objects of practical use, not as living beings. Dogs are dogs and they deserve the same consideration, regardless of what role they occupy. That is why we ask that no differences be made between hunting dogs and the rest.
