Through helping with galgo rescue, I’ve been introduced to podencos, or Ibizan Hounds. We’ve fostered one, Jazmin, an absolutely delightful character.
Some of the podencos have had their beautiful pink noses mutilated to make them look like a pig, as with Joy, which apparently is supposed to improve their ‘ratting’ capabilities!
These dogs also suffer the same degree of indescribable cruelty as the galgos.

In the meantime, meet Violetta, a little character looking for her forever family.
Violetta is a sweet little Podenca, who is looking for her ‘forever home’.
She is being fostered in France, and this is what her ‘famille d’accueil’ say about her:
She is just over 1 year old, spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and totally house-trained. We have been fostering her for 2 weeks now, after she was rescued from Portugal. Violetta was very shy, but already she is rapidly growing in confidence.
She loves to play with our dogs and cat, travels happily in the car and loves her walks. She is very sweet natured and cannot get enough cuddles! An absolute sweetheart, who will make some lucky person very happy!

Apologies for not getting back to you. There is so much coming in every day about the abandoned galgos and podencos, and running campaigns on Galgo News, besides having to work to earn a crust – that sometimes things get overlooked. Violetta has now been rehomed with a family in France. But there are still a lot of podencos looking for homes. Contact the SARA refuge on Lanzarote, or Ibizan Hound Rescue. I have someone calling here next month who is collecting 2 podencos through Ibizan Hound Rescue and Pro-Galgo and taking them back to the UK with her. These podencos will have the correct passports to be rehomed in the UK. I will pass your details on to her but please also contact these associations direct, they will be very happy to help you, as they are inundated with dogs now the hunting season is at an end.
Apologies again, I hope you will understand that I occasionally forget to update the adoptions, as I hope people will make direct contact with the associations offering dogs for adoption.
