Law to Protect domestic animals in Spain – but probably not galgos!

Also, just read this news on the Noah’s Arc website. Can anyone tell me more – does this now apply to galgos and too?

Prison sentence for abandoning or abusing an animal !

New laws just passed in Spain now make it a criminal offence to abandon or mistreat an animal.

Article 337 says “Those that ill-treat domestic animals with cruelty, causing the death or provoking injuries that produce serious physical damage will be punished by a sentence of prison from three months to one year”

Article 631.2 says: “Those who abandon a domestic animal to conditions in which their life or their integrity could be in danger will be punished by a sentence from 10 to 30 days”.

Article 632.2 says: “Those that cruelly ill-treat domestic animals will be punished by a sentence from 20 to 60 days or work in benefit of the community from 20 to 30 days”.

This is a step in the right direction and the law goes on to say that…….. “you can take photos and or videos with your camera, mobile phone etc to record the facts these are very important evidence. It is even better if you obtain/possess the details of the person mistreating the animal/s. If you are afraid of the person mistreating the animal/s you can denounce them to the police anonymously or through the association of protection of animals”.

BB – it would be brilliant if people could be persuaded to take up action under this law, to protect animals. I expect the stumbling bloc for the galgos is that they are not classed as a ‘domestic’ animal.

If galgos are not classified as domestic animals, what are they classified as. Surely they are not wild animals.
So many have them as pets. If someone should abuse their pet galgo then what.

    Bonjour
I agree, they should be classed as domestic
animals, as they are not wild animals. However, according to the
galguerros and gypsies, they are ‘vermin’ and a ‘hunting tool’. How does
one deal with such a hideous mindset? And many of them beat their wife as
well as their dog. And their children’s minds are poisoned in this way. We
need to change the attitude of the next generations towards animalsto stop
    all the horrors.

If the Spanish and the other breeders continue to sell them as “hunting dog” the cruelties to galgos will not stop.
It is incredible but in several Countries in Europe (not only in Spain) there are persons that breed galgos for hunters. It happens in Spain, in France, everywhere.
Naturally they find the stuopid persons that are the same that buy a Mastino Napoletano as fighting dog. The stupid persons must be stopped together with all those veterinarians that want to earn money by the sufference of these poor and sweet dogs. The galgos and the Podencos are ancient breed and must be protected by special laws. They only need to be considered our sweet companions.

    Bonjour
There will not be any protection for galgos and
podencos, or any other dogs for that matter, until the European Union and
individual countries have a law to control the breeding, selling and disposal of
ALL dogs. There will continue to be hundreds of unscrupulous people for
whom a dog is not a ‘live creature’ but simply a means of making money or
satisfying their sadistic personalities. And such a law would need to
    imposed.
A concern in Spain now is that some people are
crossing galgos with fighting dogs – to produce a very fast fighting dog.
    When will all this stop.
And I have to say it, most of the horrors start in
    the male mind.
Thanks for commenting, hope your appeal is
    achieving some success.
