Galgo and Podenco – rescued from Spain – homed in America

Buby9 1 250 Silvia is one of the amazing Spanish volunteers to saves galgos from a killing station, and with assistance, prepares the necessary paperwork for the dogs to be adopted abroad. This is the story of Buby, who made it from the hell of a killing station, and a podenco Raji,to a new life in America, as told by Telma Shaw.

‘I will tell you of the last two that came Nov. 9th. Silvia sent me a picture of a sweet brindle galgo boy that had been in a killing station. She rescued him from there and brought him to Valencia where she lives. She immediately takes any dog she rescues to her Vet for analysis and treatments for anything that might not be right. Once evaluated, and treated, she moves him to a dog kennel where she pays for the boarding until she finds a home for him/her.

The pictures she sent us of Buby (now Illusion) and his gimpy leg we could not shake. Since two people from GRIN were going to Spain on a quick trip, I arranged for Buby to have the chance of his life, to come to the US. That was possible because a wonderful lady named Paula LaPorte of Foreverhome Greyhounds in New York said she would take Buby into her group.

The planning began across two continents to get the dog from Valencia to Madrid, stopping at a foster home in Madrid that night and on the next day to the airport for their departure with GRIN volunteers Abby Christman and Chris Plaskett. It was a roller coaster as there were a few hitches along the way, but Silvia went the extra mile to drive Buby and another Podenco named Canuto (now Raji) to get to their destination.

Podenco canuto GRIN 250 Raji was another sad case that had been waiting for a home at the dog kennel. Silvia’s vet had rescued him from a hunter in the south of Spain that had him tied to a wall most of his life. She asked us if we might be interested in him and Paula said YES! They both made the trip to the U.S

Paula reports that Buby/Illusion is a sweet gentle galgo who has adjusted quickly to his foster home and loves sleeping on the masters bed!

Raji is being fostered by Paula and after a first hectic week with the wild little Podenco, she says he is so full of love to give and they are enthralled with him and his funny personality. Raji is enjoying life like never before.. They are adjusting perfectly and will find their forever homes soon.’

Latest news from Paula – think I have homes for BOTH the kids that came this
time. Buby (now Illusion) will have a wonderful home and family of his own
for Christmas. It just doesn’t get any better than that !! He will be
living with a gorgeous 4 yr old female Greyhound and a lovely young couple
who absolutely adore him. I have a prospect for the little Podenco in New Jersey

    Hola Alicia
    Gracias
