Greyhound Racing in the Philippines – Letter from the President

Further to the campaign which was organised to protest against the proposal to introduce greyhound racing in the Philippines, I have today received a letter from the Office of the President – dated 28 September!

‘Dear Mrs Brennan

On behalf of Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, we would like to acknowledge your letter expressing your views relative to greyhound racing.

It is worthy to note that a foreign-born citizen like you finds time to communicate her opinion and campaign for the protection of animals.

With your help and of countless others like you, we shall be able to face our task with assurance and confidence.

Our warmest regards and appreciation

Very trul yours

Bobby V Dumlao, Ceso III
Director IV’

I expect it is the standard reply received by everyone who wrote to the President on this subject, but at least they have recognised the fact that people outside their country are watching what is going on.

Hopefully they will take note of the protest campaign and not introduce greyhound racing.

    Dear Beryl,
Let us all keep our fingers crossed that dog racing is kept out of the Philippines! We sent emails earlier in the year to the leaders, and I know that a lot of animals welfare groups oppose the idea of racing in that country.
It would be an absolute hell for the dogs.

    Bonjour
Yes, it is time all authorities took notice of the
cruelty involved in greyhound racing. There cannot be many breeders and
trainers who really care about their dogs, and what happens to them after racing
finished. I agree, it is time the practice is banned for
    ever.
Thank you for reading Galgo news and
    commenting.

Hopefully you got a response too. Let me
know, because it may be that for future campaigns, it might have more impact
    just to letter-write.
    Thanks for your support.
