More Spanish Shelters suffer from the storms – please please help

Pedro Munoz 2 1209 300 These are pictures from the Pedro Munoz shelter at Ciudad Real, 200km south of Madrid. Loli and a couple more volunteers struggle with nearly 200 dogs. This is a message from Cristina who has spoken to Loli today.

‘I have talked directly with Loli from the shelter in Pedro Muñoz and today at least it is not raining there. They have much wind so they hope this will help to dry a bit the whole shelter.

Pedro Munoz 3 1209 300 They have been totally devastated. The whole shelter is under water. Fortunately her galgos all have a family waiting in Belgium or Germany. She works for many years with two associations in Germany and one in Belgium who helps them a lot, and also Nuria from Amigos de los Galgos in France.

They have received blankets and beds for the dogs and this afternoon a truck will go there to pump the water off. Also today they will meet a mason and he will give them a budget estimation for an urgent canalization so that the water gets not stuck in the shelter.’

Pedro Munoz 3 1209 300 I will let you know what the estimate is for the cost of canalization.

Salamanca shelter is also under water. Cristina again ‘I have talked to Isabel from Salamanca and also here is everything under water. Some parts of the shelter are totally covered and they have moved the dogs to another part where at least some small spaces have no water.

Good that you gave them blankets and coats. They are using them now.

I have told them to ask how much a water pump can cost, maybe if it is not too much we could help.’

In the meantime, please donate to L’Europe des Levriers or GRIN to help pay for the work to be done. Please state in your donation by Paypal or bank transfer (20 euros deducted for the latter) which shelter you wish the money to be used for.

Please, please help the shelters – the municipal councils will do nothing! The poor volunteers are struggling in conditions we can only imagine. Please please help them.

    Hello my friends,
I am Nuria Blanco from Amigos de los Galgos a Spanish galgo rescue orga. who works in Spain. We have a website in French, as most of our galgos are placed in France or in Belgium. We rescue galgos from many places and help refuges and volunteers all over Spain, but we work closely with the refuge of Pedro Muñoz since long.
Il you want to help financially for the building of a sewage system in the refuge and to make the works needed to avoid this catastrophic situation comes again, you can make a transfer to the account of the refuge in need, that is to say Pedro Muñoz.
On the other hand, some rescue groups in Spain has offered their help to Loli, the woman who runs the refuge, and she would be helped by taking out some galgos from the dogpound nearby, where she had planed to take out some if it were not have been by the floodings.
At the moment, we think we can cope with those in there which, anyway, are too many.
Thanks for doing directly the transfer to the refuge
