Hey, folks. See what’s in Spain’s rubbish bin! You’ll see the one on the right has a swollen front right paw. Obviously injured or infected, so thrown by the galguerro on the scrap heap, like a cigarette end. I curse you, galguerro, and all your family, for the rest of your lives.

How can anyone be so cruel to greyhounds. We adopted one, hes the best little spud ever. They are very sensitive animals that give so much love and appreciate recieving love back. They are amazing!
A friend and I have been running a campaign from Spain asking that animal cruelty laws be enforced. People must keep going with these types of campaigns, it will be worth it in the end.
Please may I aslo add that many of my spanish friends are distressed by the treatment of animals here in Spain and work with me at a refuge to help hundreds of these poor dogs.

The above video was put together by my friends and I with the intentions of raising awareness. My friends did an excellent job and I feel they have definately helped get the message out about what these poor dogs go through. Spain is a wonderful country which I love but without doubt needs more and more eductaion programmes in schools and of course needs to actually start enforcing their laws regarding this animal cruelty.

Found this article today! According to our history one of the earliest civilizations and highly respected for their intelect…. Egyptians.
Greyhounds were the most valuable possession of the Egyptian Pharaohs, adored for their speed, grace, elegance, and loyalty. Cleopatra and King Tutankhamen had Greyhounds. Figures of the Pharaoh’s Greyhounds were often carved into the walls of their tombs or mummified along side their masters. In ancient Egypt, the birth of a Greyhound was often second in importance to the birth of a son. Entire families would mourn the passing of a Greyhound by shaving their heads, fasting, and weeping out loud.
The Greyhound is the only canine breed to be mentioned in The Bible, Proverbs 30: 29-31.
I think Spain seriously needs some education regarding these wonderful canines! The Egyptions worshiped these animals and now man hangs, mutilates and tortures them. In my opinion The Egyptions were one of the leading civilizations of history with unbelievable intelligence and amazing culture and within this society the greyhound came second only to their children! People today should reflect on previous civilizations and learn to respect these wonderful greyhounds.

Hi Tina
What you have found about the history of the
greyhound in Spain is true, and especially a white one was awarded a Royal Medal
as, at that time, they were rare. Unfortunately, as the Spanish peasants
got hold of the Spanish greyhounds – at a time when the dogs were used to hunt
for food for the family, as the peasants were not allowed guns, when it came
time for a dog to die, through injury or illness, they hung them. That is
where the tradition comes from, which the sadistic galguerros claim as a
reason to continue this evil practice.
Thank you for your continued support of Galgo News
and all you yourself do to help the abandoned dogs in your area.
