Discarded by a hunter, hit by a truck, rescued by a volunteer – the reality of Spain

Kunta hit by a trick 0110 350 This news is just in. Can any association or shelter help with a foster home where this poor galgo can stay during which will be a long period of rehabilitation.

They have called him Kunta. This is his story.

‘We have rescued a very badly wounded galgo this morning.

He was hit by a truck 3 days ago after what the people living nearby tell us. He is not in danger of death now, but his injures are many and bad. I think he has 2 broken legs at least: the front right leg is clearly broken, as you can appreciate on the pictures… but he also has some injury in his rear legs, possibly knees. I can tell by the weird position of his legs when he tries to walk, or even standing, that he is in very bad pain.

He is having pain killers and antibiotics since we rescued him… and he is still very aware of things and hungry too, which means he is still strong and wants to live.

We will take him to the vet tomorrow… we will see what do they tell us. I hope there is something we can do for him!!

Kunta 4 legs 350 Anyway, it is urgent to find a fosterhome for him. He cannot stay in Bellavista in such condition! And with all the care and rest he will need if he gets operated, the dog hotel is not an option either… so I am asking if you know of anyone that could offer a fosterhome to this one to recover.

And of course, if he needed to get operated, besides a fosterhome we would need to collect money for his operations and veterinary treatment as well!

He is young (2-3 years old) and very noble.

NB As soon as I know which association can take him, I’ll pass on details of where to donate towards the cost of his operations etc.

I read this news with a sick feeling, as I know the stories will be frequent. The end of January—these words will never mean the same thing to me again. To me ‘The end of January’ is synonymous with the perpetual Holocaust for the Galgos.

You are right, Valarie – it is a holocaust.
And besides the 50,000 galgos who will suffer in this holocaust, there are the
volunteers trying to help them, emotionally and physically drained by it
all. Holocaust is the exact description.
My heart is with them all, especially
    now.
Thanks for caring. Tell everyone you know
what is going on. We need to get the publicity to shame Spain into
    preventing it NOW.

    Bonjour
Thanks for commenting. You are absolutely
right in all you say. Which is why it is so important for the world to
know what goes on in a so-called civilised country in Western Europe.
Spain is the only country out of step on hunting with galgos, and the annual
massacre, about to begin – it beggars belief.
Keep supporting the galgos, and tell everyone you
    can what happens to them.

Please, Valarie, dont give up on reading, dont
give up on your support for the galgos. They need everyone to help
them, and so do the courageous volunteers who do so much to help these
    innocent canine victims.
    Dont give up reading…………….

Dear Beryl,Don’t worry, I will not ever give up reading about Galgos. Ever. I will always continue to support them! Always! I knew the day would happen when there would be no more lving day to day happy-go-lucky. The day arrived when I found out about the Galgos…I haven’t been the same ever since. I always think of them. When I pet my own dogs, and know they are safe and loved, I think about how many Galgos are being murdered and tortured RIGHT NOW.
Are there many more Galgo rescue organizations opening up every year? The word is spreading, yes?

Thank goodness for not giving up on them!!! I
didnt really think you would! Yes, new groups, dozens in France now,
Larisa with Slovenia Sighthound World is one of the latest, and more and more
people in US who have been such fervent supporters of the greyhound problem are
now getting on the Galgo Train and spreading word of the annual massacre.
We HAVE to believe, Valarie, that one day we WILL make a difference. And a
lot of it has to do with educating the young generations that cruelty to animals
is just NOT acceptable. Easier said than done, but there are associations
in Spain who, besides spending so much time saving the galgos, also run
education programmes. Have a look at the websites of SOS Galgos, Pro-Galgo
and Scooby Medina, to name but 3.
Keep supporting the galgos and spread the word wide
    and far.
    Bless you for caring.
