I misunderstood the story of these galgos. Cobie tells the story
Today I found out through one of my Spanish contacts that the abandoning, hanging and in other ways mistreating of the galgos for some people just is not yet enough and now they abuse them in an even, I think, more cruel way than you ever could guess.
To embalm a dog, formaldehyde is injected in the vein while the dog is still alive,then take all the blood out of the galgo by which treatment the dog of course dies. They then fill the veins with a chemical fluid which keeps the corpses conserved for many, many years. This is called balming but I am sure you heard about this. So they have a big storage of dead dogs which they use for their studies. In many countries, eg. in Holland, this way of study is forbidden, there are new and technical very good new ways to do a vet study.
It seems that students use living dogs from perreras to balm them alive and they prefer galgos and when asked they are rather proud of their work because they think that doing this, they keep the dogs away from an, in their eyes, even worse faith, the abandoning and other things the galgueros do to their dogs.
I reserved 4 of these galgos which were rescued this morning by taking them away from the galguero.
The group from which my contact is a very active member, is going to put charges against the university but will it help? I hope so, but Spain is realy unbelievable with its dogs and until now, not many people were punished for doing awful harm to innocent animals.

Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo was also involved in the rescue of these four galgos and I am waiting to hear more about this. I understand the dogs are now at the Villa del Rio shelter in Cordoba.
The reason they use galgos is that they even have the best blood for transfusions.
It is the most oxiganated one and of the best quality…
Write to the Spanish Prime Minister Zapatero, he needs to know the world is watching what is going on and we will bring disgrace on his country if he does not do anything to stop this annual holocaust – may not be burning, but might as well be!

Oh my god! Those bastards! Are there no laws forbidding this torture? I am sending my letter off, but what else can we do to make this cease? Do ALL the animal welfare groups know about this?

Hi Valarie
This story has only just broken, although people
have been aware that it went on before. There is even more to say than is
written here, but the whistleblower is living in fear of exposure and
expulsion from the university. But this person cannot stand any more to
see the agony these dogs go through.
There are enough corpses at the Killing Stations,
for goodness sake, why cant they use these poor dogs? At least their
agony is already at an end.
You see why we have to keep hammering on at Spain
to bloody DO something to stop all this!

Can someone in Spain contact the News Media to do an expose on this horrid university? The person is sure that the dogs are embalmed while still alive? They hadn’t been euthanized first? I am nauseous thinking about this.
