I hope many of you have supported my letter writing campaigns to the European Commission. In a letter dated 2nd February 2010, Mmme Andrea Gavinelli, Head of the Unit of Animal Health and Welfare has advised me of the following:
‘In accordance with the objectives of the Community Action Plan on the Protection and Welfare of Animals 2006-2010, the Commission is working continuously in order to increase awareness on animal welfare issues among European citizens. To this effect, the Commission will organise the first International Conference on Education and Animal Welfare on 1 & 2 October 2010.’
